Total Cost of 1.8L to 2.5L swap

Post by dj4monie »

I'm considering an MX-3 as my next project and would like to purchase a GS model if I could. But what I really wanted to know is what most of you have spent on your swap from start to finish.
I'm looking mostly at the US version of the KL engine to get my car certified again after the swap, which is much easier with another US engine and not a JDM engine.
Thanks

Seen it done for under a grand. My project budget right now is in the 1200USD range [including fluids, gaskets, belts, and other maintainance items]

The KL-ZE will pass an emissions test if you use your 1.8 computer and get it reprogrammed to ZE specs. Then just hook up your EGR and every thing will be fine.
Price is a different story.
lets say your friend has a 95 probe that gets destroyed in a car wreck. The engine is ok so he gives it to you for free. And your uncle is a mechanic and he dose the swap for free. All you pay for is basic tune up parts.
The total cost could be $250 US.

Or you know no one, and have to pay a mechanic to buy the engine and install it, and you wanna get all top shelf parts, New timing belt, water pump, motor mounts, cold air intake, coil over springs, wire set Exhaust, synthetic oils, plugs, ect.....
now you have spent 5,000 US.
If you dont want to fix these things when you do the swap, you will have to fix them later. Its up to you.
A basic swap will cost around 1500 US and can go up to 7,000 US .
have fun :)
