Loose shifter...anybody got this?

Hey guyz /n galz,
My shifter is extremely loose, both when in the neutral position and when in gear. When it's in any gear, I can move it (very, very easily) 3 inches in either direction sideways. When it's in neutral, I've easily got 5" or more play either way. Is there a bushing or something else that wears out with age? Is it something that can be replaced? Has anyone used the adjustable shifter that JC Whitney sells for $60? Does it really make that much difference? Thx!

Bronsoil bushings from SRD or corksport would solve this. Or taking it apart and custom fabbing your own solution, right Jesse? ;)

Hey man ya I had the same problem and I ended up just getting a pace setter adjustable shifter and it makes a lot of difference!!! The shifts are so smooth and close you barely have to move your hand. I would recommend the pace setter and it also comes with bushings so your all set. Ps. don't try to fabricate your own doesn't work well they wear out really quick I know from experience.

the free play happening is because of the bolt holding the shifter to the shift linkage is to loose. u need to jack ur car up and tighten the bolt slowly because to tight and you wont be able to get it into gear. I have the pacesetter short shiftr and its a great investment. only $60 and what a difference! but check that bolt first.
Dan
