Change your transmission fluid to Redline and see if that helps.

Yeah, Redline MTL or 75w90 are both good fluids.

Dave, have you heard anything about the tranny fluid called SynchroShift? or something like that? I know it's real good tranny fluid for some cars, but havent heard it thrown around in the mx-3 world yet

Sorry about my change of identity, but I became "unregistered" for some odd reason, then I couldn't re-use my old name when reregistering. Anyway, what's the scoup with this Redline stuff, is that just a fliud that you think is generaly good, or is there something special about it that may help? i had heard of some car's gearboxes working better on engine oil, which is why I asked the question, but I didn't want to risk finishing of my box for good by running something too light.

Hi, I found some more info on fluids on a site for a Chrysler that had weak sycromesh from day one on all of them, so I am posting part of it incase anyone else is running into a similar problem.<P>"Many DSMers end up using Redline MTL, BG Synchroshift or GM Synchromesh in their transmissions.  All of these fluids have the same purpose - to increase friction, just as the Mitsu fluid modifier is intended to do.  Most owners report at least some improvement with the new fluids, but most experience significantly better shifting. Opinions and experiences vary. <P>Recent experience suggests that Redline MTL gains in shifting performance by sacrificing synchro longevity. This is not exactly news, but more and more owners are reporting this problem with MTL now that there are alternative fluids available. Many owners considered the tradeoff to be well worth it. However, more people are now recommending a mix of Redline MTL with MT-90 gear oil, to combat both problems at once. "

what if I have this same problem, and no matter what oil I use it doesn't change?<p>I am having my ZE installed in the coming days (ZE is being prepped with cams etc as I type) an I want to know if, while I have the engine etc out, it'd be worthwhile getting the gearbox checked out?<p>It seems that the 2-3 shift has gotten gradually worse since I have had the car.. <p>What do you all think, David? Anyone else?

If it stays notchy despite the fluid, its a syncro/slider/gear engagement point problem. Rebuild or replace.

thanks David, much appreciated.. <p>according to my mechanic, it's gunna be like $500 AUD just for the gearbox guys to look at it, and depending on the problem, more to actually fix.. would you say it's worthwhile to check it with the box already out?<p>thanks again...

I heard that a stainless clutch flex line helps, if you're pulling the engine anyway though, giver on the box too while it's out. I noticed mine is fine when it's really warm, but sucks in the cold weather. i'm thinking if the rubber hose is a problem, it might be made worse by the fluid getting thick, so I'm gonna try that
