unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
I have a slight problem with my engine misfiring at high rpms shifting into second hard. I recently put in new spark plugs, but not my wires. I think it is the wires that is causing the slight misfire. (it's not any of the cylinders because I did a compression test and all were up there.) If anybody else has any suggestions please reply to this post!
Tooprime- 92' Blaze Red GS
[ October 05, 2001: Message edited by: Tooprime ]
[ October 05, 2001: Message edited by: Tooprime ]

when were your wires last changed??
I know when I went to change the plugs about a year ago, I had the clip that normally goes around the plug. While the rest of the wire was in my hand. Took me a better part of an hour to get the clip and plug out from the back bank. I had re-attached the clip to the wire and found that I had lost some performance.....especially when accelerating.

cheers,

What type of spark plugs are you using, and are you sure that they're the best for tyour car?
If you're using Champions, that's your problem right there, I could tell your stories about the crappiness of those plugs.

Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
I'd recommend Bosch +4 Platinum plugs and either NGK or Magnecor wires...nopi.com sells NGK's for around $70...
did you change your cap and rotor??
Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
Thanks for all your replys, I am running bosch platinum right now for the time being. The plugs haven't been changed probably for 75,000 km. When I had the old plugs in my car, it would not do this, only until I put the new spark plugs in. Could it be that the plugs are toast and not putting enough voltage to the spark plugs.
Tooprime- 92' Blaze Red GS

Check the gap, you could have messed up your wires as well when taking them out to install the new ones.

Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
Also, try resetting your ECU (unplug your battery for about 10-15 mins)...that just solved one of my problems
Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
replaced my plugs and reset the ecu and the problem is still there. I am now going to take the spark plugs out and re-check the gapping. (or maybe I have a faulty spark plug)

Checked the gapping, which was set to standard and the problem is still there. I know I have a faulty O2 sensor that may be causing the problem. Or could it be a leak in the exhaust.
Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
How do you know if your o2 senser does not work?
Re: unburned fuel causing misfire, what is it?
The best way is to probably get a code scan done to tell you which sensor is faulty. Ex: O2 sensor.
