Engine knocks-help needed

Post by appe »

Hi!

Car: -92 V6.
Problem: The engine ticks/knocks. I have tried to change from syntetic to ordinary mineraloil. The sound stays the same.
One mechanic told me to buy new valvelifters.
Is that the problem?`

I have a ticking noise from my engine as well...David Coleman told me that it was my HLA's, and that all K series engines do that after a while. He recommended that i use 5w30 oil, which i did, and it got rid of my noise
------------------
~'94 GS (Creek Blue Mica)

HLA - Hydraulic Lash Adjuster
This is the device that sits atop the valve and that the cam lobes ride on. One HLA per valve = 24. It's the same concept as a hydraulic lifter in a pushrod engine. It keeps you from having to adjust valves as with a mechanical setup like on the 240/260/280Z's.

you might also want to check your timing belt and your hydraulic tensioners... i just got mine replaced and my car is so quiet at idle speed that i have to step on the gas to know it still runs...to do that it costs around $ US 500. yikes !
------------------
Frenchguy0
'92 GS Emerald Green
crenia@hotmail.com

I notice a ticking about once every month or two. I check my oil, and it's low. Make sure you're up to date on an oil change, and your crankcase is filled up. That should help with ticking.
