I am planning on swaping my 1.8 v6 on my 92 mx-3 for a 2.5 v6(hopefully a kl-ze)and was just wounder how much money I should have to do the entire swap with all the necessary parts to get every thing working. Also I was woundering since the compression ratio on the klze is 10.0:1 would I have to buy premium gas so that the engine would work properly .

US KL: 500-1000USD
KL ZE: 1000-2000USD
Clutch: 200-300USD

Since the ZE is designed to run on 100+ octane, 94 would be a good idea if nothing higher is readily available for you. Avgas isn't too expensive, but its leaded from what I've found, which is bad for the O2 sensors.
------------------
David Coleman- Moderator
1993 Mazda MX-3 GS Special Edition
V6 engine info | KL FAQ | ECU reprogramming | K series Image cache | Probetalk Archive Search

Some who have some friends that have a engine hoist and other tools may try finding a front clip of a car with the motor they are wanting. It usually comes with the dash forward. Ive seen some probe gt fronts from $800 -$1500 (and ofcourse higher too) and they have 2.5 Klo3 in them. That may end up being cheaper for it has the radiator, tranny, mounts, air sensors, air box, axles and everything in the front. Im not sure but I bet the computer is still plugged in.
Just a thought
~Chris~

Don't forget eBay as an engine source.
I just bought a KLZE for $1200 there, about what all the salvagers want for the US MX-6/626 engine. Not everything on eBay is sky high!

my engine swap cost just over $7000 cdn, and that was from a 323 1.6L to the 2.5L. The cost would of been lowering but i went with the shops custom mandrel bent exhaust, and i had to buy a power steering rack because the 323 never had one.
