I recently bought a 92 Mazda MX-3 and I have no idea how to install a cd player. I had a Mazda 626 , I took it to a professional and had it installed, so I guess I will do the same this time, I was calling around checking out prices and most of the places said it would cost $80-$85 that's for installing it and the mounting costs. I was just wondering if that's a reasonable price? It only costed like $50 to install the cd player in my last Mazda. Or if anyone knows of an online guide so maybe I could try it myself. Any info would be helpful, thanks.

Hooking up a cd player is very easy. You should save yourself $80 and do it yourself. Just get a wiring harness from best buy, match up the colors, and itll plug right into your factory harness. Fit the metal cage into the opening and slide the cd player in and youre done. Very easy and should only take you like an hour or two tops.

Best Buy in my neighborhood does the free installation if I buy from them. If I do it myself, they deduct $20 from their price.

I said free, but it's probably like free installation if they can't install the unit on the same day. I believe they might charge like $39.95 for installation. Probably, all you have to do (if you want to do it yourself), is connect 4 pairs of cable for speakers, power, ground, and that should do the most of the staff. The rest is like for the amplifiers, dimmers, etc..

do NOT pay 80. That's way too overpriced.

The only reason a 626 is different from the MX-3 is because you need the removal tool to get the stock am/fm player out of the 626 where as you dont need the removal tool for the mx3. Like all the other posts said... do it yourself. All you have to do it read a little and match colors. But I can give you some advice. Do it right the first time and make sure all your connections are secure. It sucks going down the road and hitting a bump and 2 of the 4 speakers want to cut out ans then cut back on.

Hey, if you can get the stock radio out yourself you can install an aftermarket one yourself.
Do yourself a favor and DON'T CUT THE FACTORY STEREO PLUG!!! It's a pain to hardwire. Just go to a stereo shop and get an aftermarket to factory stereo plug. Match up the colours of the wires (red attaches to red, and so on), and if you don't know what the wire does not attach it. All you need is 8 speaker wires, power(yellow), switched power (red), and a ground wire (black).
When that's done, throw the steel cage in and secure it - plug the radio in, then slide it in!!

And if you get in a jam, mx-3 community is pretty fast with some good info to get you through it
