Relocating battery into trunk....any danger?

I was wondering if it would be unsafe to put my battery in the trunk. The reason I ask is because I'm not too sure if the battery gives off any toxic fumes during normal usage. It would be in my spare tire well. I was thinking of maybe cutting out some sort of vent hole? Would this be necessary? Thanks...

You should check summitracing.com they sell relocationg kits that have special boxes that prevent from those fumes getting into the car and venting them out of the car.

thanks

why would you wanna relocate it to trunk, you need more weight on front of car not at the back.

A battery weighing no more than ten pounds wouldnt make a difference. I need more room since my CAI is rubbing up against it right now. I just got my hands on a turbo also, so I want more room under the hood for piping, turbo, intercooler, stand alone, that kind of stuff.

You want the battery in the trunk to help redistribute the weight. You do no want all the weight over the front wheels, the result is poor handling. By moving the battery to the rear, spare tire well is the best location, mounting it low and just behind the rear axle, you get a little bit closer to a better weight distribution. Ideal is 50/50, our car is about 65/35 so you do have a bit of work to get there. Every little bit helps.

If you do any track racing, you will need a battery box, regardless if you run a sealed Optima battery - NHRA rules.

relocating battery is not always good.....for instance....autocross and rally drivers would want to do that for better weight distribution as Maldo said....however if you're a drag driver you want to keep as much weight forward as possible to keep traction on the drive wheels.
If you're just making room for a turbo setup that's okay too.

Basically that is what I'm doing it for. I have just been given a turbo for free so I'm going to start getting parts for my set up. I figure relocationg the battery is as good a place to start than any. For right now, I would also like to just give my CAI more room since it kind of rubs against the battery. Anybody know if its safe to have a yellow top in your car with you? Thanks guys.

I've got some good news. Now I HAVE to move the battery to the trunk. Remember the Supra turbo and injectors I have? Well, I now have the entire car so i have the turbo's, intercooler, piping, injectors, AND EVERYTHING. I havent seen the car but the girl is telling me it's a twin turbo 1988 supra with 130k miles on it. Depeneding on the size of the intercooler, I may mount it where the battery use to be and put a small scoop in the hood directing air to the IC. Thanks guys.

VW Beetles had the lead acid battery under the back seat cushion for many many years. I've never heard of a problem. I drove a '64 for a long time and am still here to tell about it...

They say they wont unless they are overcharged

your using a yellow top as your cranking battery? I didnt think deep cycle liked to be constantly charges, i though a deep cycle battery wanted to be slow charged, and discharged completely before the next charge

I moved my stock battery in the trunk a couple of months ago. Only problem encountered is that I didn't block it very good and with some sporty corner it start rolling around...
