1 Sub or 2?

Post by Phire »

I'm building a sound system for my car, is it better to have maybe one 12' sub compared to 2 10's? I am kind of on a limited budget and I'm not looking for the abolsute best but for something descent.
Thanks

it depends the kind of music you listen to. 10's usually have a faster bass response, but 12s can usually go lower than 10s can. And as long as you chose the right equipment, both setups can get plenty loud.

no, thats not true. 12's can reach lower frequencies. 12's will have the deeper bass.

***just my setup*** I only have 1 10 (pioneer IMMP 500 watt) powered by a 400 watt fosgate amp. Using the cd head unit to power my 2 pioneer 6.5 in the front and it sounds awsome. It's loud but not noisy. The sound quality stays clear even at high volume. I've been in a few parking lot's with friends that run 3 amps, 3 subs ect ect..and i've out powered them(in sound quality, not technically power...they have a lot more power but sound like shìt at high volume.) with mine. so You might wanna try 1 10 to see how it is and if you don't like get another one, or trade it exchange it for a 12. Just my 2 cents though (which means Shìt)
[ January 28, 2003: Message edited by: your2slow ]

I personally would get two 10's. They will put out more bass than one 12, have almost the same size box, and when you go to upgrade, they will be easier to sell than just one 12.

2 10s won't necisarily put out more bass than 1 12. it depends on the setup and exactly how u want it to sound. depends on the box the sub and the amp and what kind of music u listen to and how u want it to sound.

its hard to compare how much bass a 10 with produce compared to a 12 inch cuz they sound different to fit the tastes of different people. i think if your just looking for better sound one 10 is good as well as one 12 is good. with one sub in a hatch you can bump hard cuz theres lots of airspace to resonate in. how your system sounds just depends one how much u want to spend on trying different parts and tuning. the best way to see is to go to a shop and listen to the different equipment they have to see what fits your taste for sound quality and pocket book. imo i think kicker comp vr's, although not the newest and the best, are very good bang for the buck and sound very nice too. good luck

i'd go 2 10's. I had a friends 12" and it was nice cause i could rattle the house windows a bit, but what bugged me was the 1/4 second lag behing the song.
He took his 12" back so he could sell it and i picked up 2 8"...i personally they sound way better. They're synced with the music, they pound better then the 12 did and it sound soo much nicer...
Every once in a while i put in the star wars cantena song on and the bass (the instrument) sounds like the real instrument...its beautiful

In my car, I have one 10" sub in a 6-order bandpass with a 400 watt amp, it sounds really clean and has sharp but deep bass. It all depends on the set up, and who you get to install it for you. Bad installation can equate crappy sound output. My brother installed mine, and hes a professional installer (in fact has the loudest street legal vehicle in canada... 164.4 dB's baby! haha) and i am sure thats why the sound is so good and clean with only one 10" sub. (that and the bandpass)
anyways, good luck! :)
