Actually, I'm pretty sure powershifting is when you use the clutch but don't let go off the gas.

I may be wrong though. I thought it was so you don't lose speed in between shifts.

you sort of blip the throttle so that there is a temp relief of presure on the gears an you bang it in , I wouldnt recomend this, Its like fancy kung fu sword tricks ,they look cool but if you screw up your gonna need someone to put things back where they usta be! Ive seen guys tear up an make a mess of thier trannie worse than a cat with a role of toletpaper, an if your lucky an your gearbox doesent go boom youll still look real lame (leave that for the civic guys LOL!) If you have a good clutch an short throw shifter an with a bit of practice you can shift just as fast as someone who is powershifting ,without putting your transmition in danger.

shift
bend input shaft
tranny explodes all over
any questons?
like that old drugs commercial, this is your tranny, this is your tranny on power shifting then the egg that they were using as your tranny gets smashed by a fryin pan

power shifting is the trick you use when your clutch has gone out and its your only line of attack!
what your trying to do is match the speed of the motor with the speed of the car, so that your not speeding up but not slowing down either, i guess you could call it that perfect harmony, and it will allow you to slip in and out of gears. but not reverse your skrewed on that one!

Shifting without letting off your gas is not that bad for your transmission. I do it all the time when I'm racing (without nitrous). Just keep the gas floored, push the clutch and change gears. It's a much smoother transition from gear to gear in higher rpms. Your engine doesn't start to slow in RPMS as opposed to when you let off the gas. Try it, you will know what I mean. However, if you have a stock clutch it won't last long. I don't do it with nitrous because by hitting the clutch with the gas pushed, your rpms skyrocket...if i was squeezin and it hit fuel cut...could be ugly...
This is just my opinion, I love shifting like that. Some don't, I do. My tranny is doing just fine since I put in redline 75 90 and that lucas stuff. Keep in mind, I never use to shift like that before the new tranny fluid.

My honest opinion! Don't do this!!! I owned my car for 3 years and it ran perfectly. I got the car all done up, fell in love with it again, and started abusing it. I "powershifted" every chance I got and guess what? In a few short months, my syncros are toast. Waste of money just to feel a great shift once in a while. Grrr. Basically, don't do this.
