Why do you modify your mx-3?

I doubt anyone has really asked themself this question but recently my parents asked me. I only had to replies because it caught me off guard I said because I want to make it unique and for it to fit my personality and also because its fun and its just something to do. Them asking me this made me wonder what are the reasons other mx-ers modify there cars. Also they wanted to know why I am trying to sell my automatic rs so I can get a manual gs. I had a few reasons for this but none of them seemed to be convincing enough. So I would just like as many posts as possible from mx3 owners telling why they do what they do. I need convincing information so that they let me continue on with my modification of my possible future gs mx3. Thanks for your help and opinions.

i modify my mx3 because i love it and its unique car. When i first got into cars i didnt now much about anything, and thanks to my mx3 i have learned alot. Not only have i learned about the b6 series engine, but now ive learned about a slew of mazda motors. The b6t, bpt, klo03, KLZE. Ive learned how cars work, and ive learned to fix mine on my own. Theres nothing like the feeling you get when you replaced your whole suspension on your own, without any real experience, and it actually working ;) . I get aked all the time why dont i buy somthing faster, or newer. All i reply with is everytime iget in my car, ifall in love all over again. I know that ounds cornjy but its a fact. I Was debating buying a new miata once i move in a few months. However now im leaning twards buying a new southern mx, with a clean body, swap all my stuff and go from there. Eventually a bpt in the works. Gotta love the mx ;)

I like to modify it because it makes it faster... or atleast seem faster and perform better! Also its a wicked hobby, and its fun to do things yourself. The only down side is how much it controls your life haha, Modifying it cost money, money takes work, modifying it takes ALOT of money, which means ALOT of work  But its all worth every penny!

The feeling that YOU took some ordinary car and made it into something eye catching, sporty, and the way you want it down to every last detail is such an intense feeling that no one can take away from you. Modding a car is like building a house or like re-doing your bedroom, you have the power to create something so beautiful and no one has the power to stop you... I dunno, it may sound corny but it is a very intense and fulfilling feeling!

Very true, not only do i do it to be unique and make it look better, faster and high tech, i do it for the experience. The 3 main reason are:
1)To make the car suit me, so far its been fast (or to be) and high-tech. Looks for me will be only added withough sacrificing performance, especially since i would like to autocross her next year, so im still undecided on what bodykit, but it looks like i may go with the new FX designs one, but i wanna know how much lower is the front bumper than the stock GS one...but anyway, i like being original, like my CarPC. Sure my car wont turn heads, until you see the interrior. Its funny watching people walk by and seeing them do double-take
2) Learning. I've learned soo much about cars its not funny. My mechanic is gonna do the KLZE swap for me, but asked me to do the research. Man, I was just a computer enthousiast with an interst in cars, but had no influence for it. (we didnt even have auto shop in high-school :( )I knew almost nothing about cars before. Now I know about half mf my car inside-out, and almost most of the electrical system(thats not engine related)...now if i could only trust myself enough to do my own work mechanically...
3) Its a hobbu that gets me outdoors!
[ July 12, 2003: Message edited by: Nd4SpdSe ]

i was once asked "why do you spend money on things for your car?" by a older gentelmen at the local speed way gas station... it cought me off guard but the only thing i could tell him was... "well sir... it keeps me out of drinking and drugs, 'cause if all my money is tied up into my mazda, where am i going to get the money to do drugs or drink?" he smiled and told me that my car looks nice and that he used to moddify cars when he was younger for other people. we talked for about 20 mins then we left.

I love the style and design of the mx-3. I modify my car because of 1 main reason its too slow. I like to be original so I modify to be so. Plus its great having a car noones heard of before, especially when a civic owner asks what kind of car you have I say, well, its not a civic like everyone else.

Reasons for your folks, the Manual GS gets better gas mileage than the others. Also, the GS has better handling and braking for those unexpected situations you may encounter. I can attest to the little car's integrity at high speeds, but that's just me and I don't think anyone else should attempt what I do.
I personally like my MX-3 because it has been a true learning experiance. It taught me so much about how motors operate, what the unique function is of every little part, and how to draw out and improve a vehicle's inherent abilities on a budget. Performance isn't always going fast or looking slick. Even when my car hasn't been washed in three months, has mud splattered along the doors, dust on the dash, and dirt on the floor I still know it performs well. It gets me from place to place with an enjoyable and comfortable ride that is tailored to my tastes, but not only that, I've noticed better mileage per gallon and improved response since I began applying the knowledge I've gained.
My goal is just to turn my MX-3 into a vehicle that will keep me and my passanger safe while I put my trust into a chassis and motor I had a hand in rebuilding and improving. Whether it's whining the motor down a black highway straightaway, or howling the tires around corners some would fear, I know that the vehicle I bought and built isn't going to fail. I'll be right there to keep her alive, and I know she's going to do the same for me.
[ July 14, 2003: Message edited by: Hy300 ]
