I seek wisdom

Post by Mastirmynd »

This doesnt have much to do with vehicles, but im about to move out. I;ve finally saved enough cash to get out of my dads basement. I found a nice 2 bedroom, 2 bath appartment. Walk in closet, dishwasher, fridge, stove, washer and dryer in their own little room, all the things i wanted. And affording it wont be an issue, so thats out of the way. SO, any of you with advice on being on your own for the first time, please share it. It will just be me and my ferret in the place, no room mate. Any tips, suggestions or personal stories are good. Any cheap recipies, i dont want to eat peanut butter and jelly every night. Like i said, this doesnt have anything to do with cars, but i just figured since you all are a wealth of information about things with engines, maybe you could help me out with this as well. Thanks, :D

Save some money... and dont spend it on your car. Things can and will go wrong, rent money is always due, if u have personal problems or not.
Get a george forman grill.
Koolaid is cheap and so are ramon noodles :)
And if u have alot of company like myself... Buy frozen foods (noone will cook them) and dont buy alot of junk, it will get eaten.
[ June 03, 2003: Message edited by: Custommx3 ]

all good advice barry hehe. MEa nd my bro just signed a lease down in austin texas for a nice 2 bedroom 2 bath. Will be nice cause there is two of us, and rents like 370$/month, mines 400$ cause I want the room iwth the bathroom in it, haha. I cant wait to finally get out of the house. Saving up money is a good thing first, and in my case I wont have a job rgiht when im there, so I plan on atleast taking 1 - 1,500$ with me. I know we all love our cars, but they will always be there to mess with when you have expendable income

If it's just you, and you are single, then spend some money on a queen or king size bed. When I lived by myself, before my current girlfriend moved in, I used to impress girls just by having a nice clean apartment with lots of electronics and a big *** bed. :-)

Get a plant or a dog. Women dig it when they know that you can actually keep stuff alive.
And put up some pictures . . . not of you . . . art deco. Women fancy that crap too.
Ask a female that you can hang with for some good recipes. On a day that you're not working, cook up a storm. Eat your left-overs on the days that you have no time to cook. Freaze stuff if you have to.
Figure out the laundry too. If you can go a year without making your clothes all pink, your doing well.
Good luck man!
one

I appreciate the advice guys, so far, i have most of the furniture and bachelor kind of stuff taken care of. Im a decent cook, and i;ve been saving my money for a while now, so i'll have plenty of back up cash. As for the pictures and art stuff, i've collected some pretty rare artifacts and antiques over the past few years, like a real tarantula preserved in a glass case, some Greek sculptures,Framed celebrity autographs, all stuff that makes me look smart and interesting. haha. The place is only about 5 minutes from my office. Im going to scotch guard practically every surface to protect it from my friends. Have any of you ever had the cops called on you for being too loud or anything?

First, the plant idea is a good one, girls love plants, they figure if you can take care of a plant you can take care of them. :D
As far as art goes try to create some yourself, I took an oil painting class and painted this desert landscape that is in my apartment and it is one of the first things that gets noticed.
Buy a Sams club card, you can survive on bananas (98 cents for six) and DiGiorno pizzas (2 for $10).
If you still need a couch go to Goodwill. You can get a nice but moldy couch for like 20 bucks then go rent a carpet cleaner machine and a couple bottles of spic and span. Clean the hell out of the couch. You can have a nice, clean, good smelling couch for like $40.
As far as cops go it is tricky, a lot will just ask you to quiet down and leave you alone. If there is anything less than legal going on don't open your door when the cops knock because it is considered an invatation for them to come in. Only talk to them through a window, tell them they can't come in and if they start to threaten you don't be scared. They will likely say that if they can't come in they will arrest everyone and you will be in deep trouble and on and on. By the time they get a warrant you can have cleaned everything up.
Good luck and have fun!!
