Why is it that a 4 cylinder 1.8L car (1992 Acura integra rs) is faster at accelerationa and top speed than a V6 car (1996 MX-3 GS). One would think that a V6 would be far superior expecially on top speed but I got skinned alive!!!
BTW the integra has 275 000 km with rust and stuff... mine has only 175 000 km minty looking.... I got everyting going for me and I still lost like a mother*****!
Why?
Note both cars are bone stock ( intake only mod)

i raced my friends integra rs back when i first got the car and couldnt drive worth ****. lost by a fender. the reason you get smoked at top end is that they make their power at a higher rpm, and the stock 1.8 v6 is a dog at high speeds. it may be a v6 but its one of the smallest EVER put into production and it has less hp than the integra (92's+ have 140).

it isnt the smallest V6 ever, BMW outdid Mazda with a 1.3L V6, the K8 used to be though

what are you talking about, ill smoke most acuras with my k8, except higher end, but drop ze in and ill rape those typeR's etc. for fraction of what they paid for theirs. just wondering how fast did your buddy go (top speed?) mph

engine displacement is the only factor in performance numbers.(usually, there are always exceptions)
The number of cylinders will only give you how smooth the engine will run.
you could make a 1.8L V12 and it would still only make about 130-150 H.P. but it would be SUPER SMOOTH.
If the acura is lighter and has more H.P. then of course it will beat you.
another esample is the 2.5L V6 KL mazda that makes 160-170 H.P.,and the nissan 2.5L 4 Cyl also makes 165-175 H.P. and the torq numbers are also very close.

My mx-3 GS is a stick. And his top speed was around 212km/h.
He was going at that speed at around 6 rpm for about mhmmmmmm good 20 minutes... after we stopped his headers were red hot!!
Check engine naturally came but its fine now.
We came from hamilton to niagara falls in under 15 minutes!!

that acura integra weighs about 2600 pounds
the engine produce 140 H.P. and 126 Pounds of torque
the MX-3 weighs about 2600 pounds the engine produces 130 H.P. and 115 pounds of torque.
power bands are determined by the camshaft profiles, combustion chamber shape, valve size, intake manifold design and exhauxt manifold design.

also 4 bangers spin up faster than v6 or v8etc

The numbers that matter:
MX-3 GS Dyno numbers:
HP 110-115whp
Torque 110-115 torque
DC4 Integra dyno numbers:
HP 125-130whp
Torque 115-120 torque
That is why the integra destroys the stock GS. Weights are very similar, and gearing is somewhat similar. Slightly taller on the teg's though.

Although 4's spin up faster, they often have less power per revolution. 4 cyl usually = 2ppr while
6 = 3ppr and 8 = 4ppr (these are general numbers, some cars will have a higher ppr). This means more cylinders are on the power stroke for one revolution, making for not only smoothness, but also more power, assuming the displacement is greater with the extra cylinders.
Also, gear ratio's can compensate for the slower rate of rpm climbing...
Oh, and ppr = pulses per revolution (electrical pulses of the distributer for every revolution of the camshaft.)

Hm 212...the fastest I've gotten my MX-3 was 130-135mph which is..210-0218kh/m. I *was* coming off of a slight decline but I tried to run her on an even, level straight before determining.
I know the mx-6 tranny has a longer 5th...I wonder how much faster you could push with it?...5-10 more mph?

Actually, I ANSWERED MY OWN QUESTION!! Holy ****! It is possible to search the forums to find an answer on your own,
...has to be a miracle...
Anyway, Some guy named WyldSide (sorry if that's wrong) posted this informative information:
The only difference I see really is that the MX-6 Tranny causes the car to have slower acceleration at lower speeds but slightly faster at 160km/h+ speeds. It also has a slightly higher top speed of 233km/h where as the stock tranny stops at 227km/h. I think the main advantage of an MX-6 tranny is the added torque capacity.

Well...227kh/m is 140ish mph...I believe he was refering to the KLZE topspeed...I think the K8 can get that high? And the with mx-6 tranny, he claims a whopping 145mph (237)
Oh well, I gues you can only poop what you can poop
