What is a realistick max hp for the 95 dohc? I'm not talking to the crank. I mean real hp, to the wheels.

That's including mods. I'm looking to see just how much I would have to spend to get say 150hp and for the engine to be strong and reliable. If it can only be done for some rediculous price then, well, I'll still drive it because mx-3's kick a##!

If you are willing to turbo your MX3 1.6 DOHC then it shouldnt be too hard to get 150hp to the wheels, if you want to do it while remaining NA then that is a whole different matter altogether. Not a whole lot of bolt on-stuff available for the MX3 like say for Hondas.

Most of the information that you are looking for can be found by searching the Forced Induction or 4cycl Technical Performance forums on this site.

There is a big thread about this regarding the BP on www.clubprotege.com. It is pretty hard to get 150WHP from an NA BP, so I would guess it is almost impossible on your engine. I think a turbo is the only real choice for you.

On the other hand, you can get Miata cams, and make some other mods and get a decent improvement too.

Did you even read the protege forums? Its not hard to get 150hp to the wheels its just very expensive. N/A power is very expensive. The only reason the guys on there say its hard because no-one has done the stuff guys are doing now. And the people that say its hard aren't even the ones doing it.

If you want cheaper power Go Turbo. Decrease gas milage but has a bolt-on turbo manifold off of the 1.6l Turbos.

If you want expensive power for either the sound or feel, go N/A. But relize also, most N/A engine that have a lot of power that are 4 cyl. are higher power engine (rev higher) and that means you have a bigger idle, decrease gas milage, and you need to upgrade a lot.

I don't have a lot of money so i am going turbo on my BP engine i just got. Do what you will.
