well I'm definetly going to do the swap to the bp. I have a 1995 mx-3 power windows, a/c,very well taken care of I got it off of a one owner private party. It's almost scary how well maintained the in/out side of the car is. The engine on the other hand. I need a new water pump,new valve cover gasket,new alternator, and lord knows what els. i'm looking at a very large bill. I would like to do the swap to the bp but i'm very confused and am hearing many different thing from this site. What do I need to do the swap the correct way? I would like to maintain reliability with the car. I also have a escort gt at the local salvage yard. I could get it very cheap I amagine. what should I do? Thanks.

you will need...

-bp motor
-wiring harness ( if you don't have a sohc)
-ecu

i don't know what to do with the tranny though because you have a 95 mx-3. but i think it would be simpler to use the motor you got and turn it into a B6T

why would you stay with my engine the reason I want to swap is its going to cost a **** load to fix it I have the dohc 1.6L but I would rather do the the swap. So could I use the engine out of the 95 escort gt that I could get?

yup and make sure you also get the harness and ecu. you should search for options on the transmission tho

the tranny? I heard on mx-3.com that you dont need a tranny swap. I also heard that you dont need the ecu or the wiring harness. But that might just be for the sohc swap to bp. Have you done the swap before yourself? About how long would you say it takes? I also have the v6 engine at my disposal, but I guess that swap doesnt work. Hey thanks, Eldon

i have the sohc and i'm in the middle of rebuilding the bp engine. the sohc has the same wiring harness as the bp minus two wires for the vics. either way, your going to need the ecu. the dohc wiring harness cannot plug into the bp ecu. as for the tranny, i'm currently using the sohc tranny on the bp. i have no idea what tranny the dohc has so i can't offer you any tips on that, but since you have the dohc, you need the ecu, wiring harness, and the motor

ok I will grab the engine the ecu and the harness. My plan was to spend the bitter cold month's in vermont building up the bp to get the most hp as possible without nos. could I grab it out of a protege as well? if so what years do you think? what is the max horsepower from the bp possible without losing reliability?

you should replace the waterpump on either engine, so they cancel each other out. the valve cover gasket is all of $12 or so. the alt is a different story, but no promises the bp alt will last. depending on the mileage of your B6, since you have a '95, i say turbo it instead. slightly easier.

if you do swap in the bp and keep your f-series tranny, you'll need the sohc passenger side cv axle...which is about $75 or so.

either way, do A LOT of research and compare the two.

And whatever you do listen to Ososlo becuase he knows all.

turbo the b6? where would I find a turbo? At what price would this be? Would'nt I have to get a turbo,a wast gate,blowoff valve all that stuff? Could you point me in the right direction for that? It does sound a lot eaisier than going for the swap.

i think you can get the manifold from corksport, or an 80's 323 turbo(can't remember the exact years)...you could also get the turbo from that car, and the turbo has an internal wastegate so you don't have to worry about buying one. you'd probably want an intercooler and performance clutch too. as for the cost...it really ranges a lot depending if you buy new or used.

I wounder which years myself. I think I should take some time to really reserch this whole thing. I getting mixed idea's and reactions from alot of different sorces. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I do know that I would like to get in touch with this guy--Eugene's Mazda @ cardomain this guy looks like he knows what he's doing. I really like the direction that he went with his rebuild. Well I don't know what My deal is now so I think I will hold tight and see what happens. Thanks Eldon
