swapped MAFS with RX-7 need help

Post by jmbadder »

I swapped my broken MAFS with an 1988 RX-7 non turbo. After I reconnected everything the car started for about 2 seconds and then cut off. I started it again and tried giving it some gas but i just died faster. Is the new MAFS dead? Do I just need to tune it? Please help.

GO to clubportege.com click on the 1st gen engine section and look at the top for RX7 MAF tuning. That explains it. The MAF might be broken if the enigne dies. Or Check to make sure the code ont he maf is B

make sure its in there tight and there are no leaks, did u hook up all the vaccum lines after when u put the new MAF in ?
also the MAF could be messed up check to see all the connections are still ok, like look at all the little pins ( i think thats whats inside )

I had to tune mine to work (open it and adjust the spring tension) there was a post on this where the guy explained it in more detail. try clearing out the memory, i beleive the car runs off the ecu's memory when the car is "below operating temperrature". clearing it out may allow it to re map accordingly for your new sensor

Disconnect the ground on your battery for about 5 min to reset the ECU. This unfortunately also resets your radio.

First off What year is your MX3? If you have a DOHC (94+)? I seriously doubt it works, i have not tired it but It uses a non trap door style maf.
