what is this??? internal part?

Post by mykel78 »

I had to change my oil pan gasket last night due to leakage. I was unable to find an actual gasket, so had to use only gasket maker. I found this thing in my oil pan and thought someone who had rebuilt their DOHC may be able to identify it. It is a bit mangled, so I've no clue. It is a metal band maybe, about 1 mm thick 3 mm wide and maybe 5mm long, but is curved like it was a ring or a band for something, the ends are rounded off. Does anyone know what this it??
I know it's bad news, along with some moisture in the oil, I had a bad night looking at all this, so please let me know... Thanks
I'd post a pic, but don't know how.

reread my post, found I had made an error in the measurement. 1mm thick, 3mm wide, and about 5cm long, with rounded ends, it was a circle before it was mangled. I have no means, that I know of right now, to upload the pics. I will check it out later. Thanks

You might wanna do a compresison test on the motor. IT alsmost sounds like your describing a Ring.
