6speed tranny

Post by robert davis »

I'm searching all options and marking them off one by one. I was thinking of doing a using a 6sd tranny from a ford focus. My friend has one and it hauls butt. Just curious if it would be a negative effect on my engine power usage or not? I've never seen anyone on here try it. Curious why is all. let me know

OK, MX3.COM, there's some kinda problem here. I have replied, but this UBB is not seeing it or the one before my other one, it only sees the last. I'm very interested in the idea of a 6 spd for us, have been since '99. Mainly because of the economy, as I was doing 130 miles per day on the interstate at the time; but now I could see performance advantages as well. How much $? Well, maybe not enough, but is this possible???

Putting a ferrari engine and a 7 speed tranny is possible. All you need is some green.

i have actually accidentally posted this twice at the same time. On the other one some people told me to check out the miata and see. He said it is theoretically possible. Would it really cost all that much? Also, if it would hold the hp and tourqe wouldnt it be worth it rather than blowing 2 or 3 trannys figuring it out? the stock tranny it has is a pos with added power from wat i read. So, how much money are we talking?? give ruff estimates not smart allic remarks

yeah, I saw that too, that was where I had posted. This may be a buy it and try it. I have no idea if it would work with the Miata gearbox, but I'd love to find out!! I'm with ya man!!1

The miata is a rear wheel drive car. Your mx-3 is not. A huge difference in transmission configuration. A six speed transmission would be completely custom, and origonal to the mx-3 (to the best of my knowladge). You would probibly be looking at $3000 for the tranny (if you can even find a 6 speed for fwd car) and god knows what for the labor.

Can I ask where your friend got a 6 speed font wheel drive transmission for his ford focus? Even the 2005 zx4 st only gets a 5 speed. I also couldnt find any focus aftermarket six speed trannies when searching? :confused2:

Google search.

someone needs to do a search cause this was discussed before and someone claimed it might be possible to put the internals from the miata 6speed into the houseing of the 1.8L (g-series i think) transmission

Ahh no, not gonna happen.

Your other option is a universal Quaife gearbox with custom gearing, sequential shifted, LSD, and of course a 6spd. However that will set you back aroung $15,000. :D

he has a 2000 i think, zx3, the hatchback one . He got it with all these options and with a factory 6spd, winter packg, and sound system with a factory 8" sub. I know for a fact it is a 6spd cause i have driven it. HOwever they got it at a lot and not directly from a factory.

well maybe i was mistaken on the year and or model. IT IS a ford focus for sure and six speed for sure. however according to autobytel.com the 2004 focus svt has a standard 6spd. and Quiefe had a 6spd on its site for the focus. So couldnt i just use the gear box and tranny from a focus? i dont know much about swapping stuff. Just replacing stock or fixing.

Seems you are right about the focus 6 speed. But unless it uses the b series I doubt it will be close to an easy swap. I really do wish it was though. I would love having a 6 speed in my car...o well.
