I was trying to do some reaserch on the clutch and flywheels from them miata and seeing about putting it in the mx-3 since my clutch is beginning to slip and i got a bit lost i think i know less about trying to get a better clutch and flywheel for the mx-3 than before searching. so i have a few ?s.
1. can a miata flywheel be put in the mx-3 dohc transmission.
2. can a miata clutch be put in the mx-3 trans
3. asside from cams/ cam gears can other internals go from the mx-5 to the mx-3 like crank / pistons / ect.?

if we ever get some diffinitive answers to these ?'s we should put them in the 4 cycle FAQ section.

1. A Miata flywheel can be used in the MX-3 DOHC, I have one in my car right now

2. A miata clutch can not be used in the MX-3 DOHC tranny. The splines on the shaft in the transmission is different. You can use the pressure plate off of a miata, but it's eaiser to just buy a mx-3 clutch kit.

3. Most internals from the Miata will work in the MX-3. There are a few diff. though. I would not recommend trying to put a miata head on the mx, it's just too much work. Also, the water pump is different, and the oil pan and oil pickup is different. I believe everything else will work.

Hope this helps,

head i wasn't going to try after asking around about that but i thought maybe pistons and crank to strengthen the bottom end just a little. then of course the cams and cam gears. so any flywheel for the early 90's 1.6L miata will fit just fine with the dohc and mx3 clutch kit?

yep, any flywheel from the 1.6 miata will work. That is whats in my car now, A miata flywheel with an MX-3 ACT clutch.
