My 94 rs with 245.000km had the factory instaled o2 sensor, evin though it seemed to still be working I decided to replace it so It didnt die an leave me high an dry someplace, I picked up an instaled a new bosch one, So far I have noticed the car seems to be working much better, crisper response, more torque, smoother etc.I havent had it in long enough to see any gains in milage but I wouldnt be suprized. I recomend anyone with a high mileage engine to replace thier O2 sensor

Your MAF sensor sits in the fresh air intake stream behind your air box/air filter. Your O2 sensor sits in the engine hot exhaust stream. See this link for a good description of the O2 sensor function...

The o2 / oxygen sensor is located in the exaust manafold, your computer uses this to determn how your combustion in the cylinders is going by reading the temp of your exaust ,rich or lean , an then adjusts the air fuel mixture to find the right mixture. These sensors are recomended to be changes around 125,000 miles. I replaced mine with a bosch one with the factory plug , you can get ones cheaper but you have to solder your old plug onto it , you can get them at any good autoparts store ,I threw $140 cnd for mine. DOH! ,
LOL, I just seen what perhapsadingo8yerbaby posted , prob explaned it alot better than I did.
Also I am noticing better milage and I can say the car is running the best It ever did.

Damn, it must be time to change my own O2 sensor. I hate spending $$ on this part but it's eating me up mileage-wise. The original O2 sensor is installed and engine has 133K miles. Passed MD emissions with no prob 5K ago. I keep the 1.6 DOHC engine well tuned up and get a consistent 32+ mpg around-town-driving until the past month. Have seen my mileage go steadily down over a few weeks period and now seem to be getting only 24 mpg. Engine checks out ok so the O2 is def suspect... dat bastaad slackin sensor!
