BP ecu

Hey, during my bp swap i tore down a protege dx and protege lx. The protege dx had a good tranny but bad motor, and i used the tranny out of it. I pulled everything out it, and noticed that the computer out of the dx is the same as the one i used from the lx. Stamped right on the top of it, it says BP01, and i know the one i pulled out of my mx-3 says b6 something. If it's a ecu that can be used with a bp swap, and anyone's interested, i'll sell it. I also have the engine i pulled out of my 92 mx-3, that runs good. Thanks-Joe

Was it from a Protege with a manual tranny? If so, I might be interested. My BP is in transit, and I need an ECU.

It's not the same ECU. BP01 is for the SOHC 16V B8 engine. BP10 is the one that comes in the BP dohc Protege LX's

I've been searching for exactly the right part number for the ECU I need for my BP. I'm confused.

My BP is from a 91 Ford Escort GT with a manual. My MX-3 is also manual.

Part searches yield BP09 but it seems that -A, -B, -D, and -R are somewhat similar, and -E and -F are perhaps a bit different.

Also, many posts here have described it as BP10, but my searches yield BP09.

I do I determine what to buy?

I always try to answer my own questions when I ask them, so I've looked around some more. Here is my theory:

BP10 = Mazda Protege
BP09 = Ford Escort

The -A -B -D -R suffixes on the BP09 are for the 91-92 Escort, and the -E and -F are for the 93-96 Escort.

Since my engine is from an Escort, and it is most likely a BP-ZE (note the Z), I most likely want the BP09, and the 91-92 wiring diagram most closely models the MX-3 wiring diagram.

Is my theory correct?

that sounds right. I think that is what they have disscussed on the clubprotege.com forums numerous times.

The Wiring for the SOHC Protege and SOHC MX-3 are the same. And the only different from SOHC to DOHC are two wires that operate the VICS system.

So is the BP out of the escorts better, being a ZE? The second BP i put into my mx-3 is out of an escort, but i'm going to pull it out anyway, for a lower mileage engine. It runs good, and has a new lowerend, but it averages around 115psi per piston. Hey John Long if you need an ecu i now have a BP10 and a BP09 extra that i'll be willing to sell cheap, i need money to finish out the body work on my car since the old lady smashed into me. Thanks-Joe

I'm leaning toward a BP09 not because I think it is better than a BP10, but because the Escort BP is a bit different (cams and stuff), and the BP09 is tuned for those differences.

My plan is to drive to a junk yard tomorrow morning and buy a BP09 for $100. I don't know how to buy your BP09 fast enough, or I would do that instead.
