Its your valve lifters, just comes with age. Certain oils will quite that down and make it pur again ;)

This might sound odd, but I use 5w -40w Rotella T (full synthetic)for diesel engines. Not only is it cheaper then gasoline synthetics, but it's also meant for gasoline engines if you read the back. Not to menchion it exceeds all requirements for gasoline engines becaue of its "soot resisting" formula (this is how all diesel oil are made because of the extremely high amounts of soot that are produced in the engine).

I must say however, I don't ever push my engine to hard. I don't believe its ever seen over 4,500 rpms(except when I thought it was in gear and wasnt). So if you are winding on a regular basis, not sure I would recomend this, because my TDI's redline is 4,200. But then again, diesels run a lot hotter (190 F) then gasoline revving high on a regular basis.

So I guess I'm back where I started. ;)

put 1 qt of ATF instead of oil next oil change, that should take care of noise.
