minor problems...

Post by bercian »

Hey, I just recently bought a 94 Mx-3 Precidia, and I love the car, works great but there are some minor problems it has. I just wanted to ask if anyone else here has had these problems with their car.

-Vibration when idle during Drive.

- Blinking "Hold" light while Driving

also something that is a bit difficult to explain for me. The car has automatic Transmission, when it changes from 1st to 2nd gear, sometimes the RPM's will go really high.

Do you think these Troubles could be due to cold weather?

Once I can find my the USB cable for my camera I can take some pictures and upload it for you guys.

I had a problem with the blinking hold button when I was installing my dash glow kit.. you must make sure everything is hooked up to your dashboard by making sure all the buttons, gauges in the driver area is working. And secondly, your high RPM shift from 1st to 2nd gear is probably caused by the hold button being on all the time, would be fixed if your problem is what I stated initially. This is from my previous experience, I hope it works for you

there was a solution mentioned for the hold light i forget what it was so do a search and u might find it.

as for the shifts its probably the hold staying on, check the trans fluid just to make sure.

also i noticed your from windsor, me 2.

if you see a silver mx-3 thats lowered and has crappy black winter rims on and really really really tinted windows and a kinda loud exhuast thats me. im always around the tecumseh area. stop by the tim horten beside Jose noodle factory on saturday or friday night lots of car people there.

any way good luck

Blinking hold light can be several things. A common occurance is the speed sensor. It can also be a problems with the shift linkage that connects to the tranny needs to be lubed (its on top of the tranny, visible under the large rippled intake hose between the airflow meter and the throttle body.. it looks like a cable that connects to a small lever, held on with a 1/2 inch or so bolt). Do a search, this was talked about several times in the past, and I think a couple of posts even have pictures showing it.

The vibration in idle is usually the motor mounts. There is a factory TSB about this. The solution is to replace them. Not terribly difficult or expensive, but its not free and it does involve some work.

The problem with the rpms rising between first and second gear (a 'flare shift') is usually an internal problem with worn clutch packs. Check the fluid level. Start the car, put in in reverse, neutral, drive, 2,1, then back up to park. Keep the car idling in park and check the fluid level on the dipstick (buried under the intake hose, next to the battery.... it has a red or orange rubber top). If its low, you may have found the problem. If the level is ok, wipe the dipstick and see what color the fluid is (it should be a pinkish/red color), and what it smells like. If it is a dirty dark red or brown, or it smells burnt, thats not good. Save your pennies and either get it rebuilt when it totally craps out or for better performance and reliability swap it to a 5-speed.

Over all, it sounds like your tranny is on its way out. :crying:
