You need to use the search function along with checking the 4 cyl FAQ. Here is the link to the BPT swap information, scroll down to the 2nd post by Cre8v mx3, i found this information very helpful..

About the ECU, i believe you can use the stock one, but its definately not recommended. If you can afford it buy a standalone or if your funds are low go with the GTX ECU.

If i was you i wouldnt put in just the engine without all the stuff needed to do the swap properly. My Swap still isnt done, i refuse to begin until i have everything needed to do a clean swap and end up with a good running, fast BPT MX3. Atleast get the basics if you cant afford the fancy stuff just yet.
Either way good luck to you and let us know how your swap goes.

you can but most people switch to the mazda protege lx tranny and axles. the protege tranny is a little beefier.

You'll need to get a good clutch, the protege lx tranny and axels and alot of other things.
You could use your stock tranny, axels etc, but your running the risk of quick wear and tear and the tranny will die if the stock clutch doesnt first. Your trying to take the easy road in doing this but your eventually going to need that protege lx tranny anyways. If you cant afford this swap dont attempt it, you need alot more then just the engine. I believe i read MX3TT (Chris) had used his stock tranny with the bpt swap, not 100% sure though.

the only problem is when those with the dohc try to use the stock tranny, the jack-shaft won't fit...
But, i recommend using the bp tranny.
Either use the Protege LX tranny and axles or as Ashley recommends, the BP tranny.

Run a search. You'll find tons of info.
