I want to put BPTurbo(GTR) with Automatic Transmission in to my 1995 Mazda MX-3.Is it possible?Does it has automatic transmission for BPTurbo???

if your adding more horsepower adn SPEED to your car, why would you want it to be auto? Dont most people do engine swaps for the potential of racing? With an auto, youre kinda screwing yuorself out of racing.

To answer the question you could mate a Protege lx tranny to it. You might have to get the transmission beefed up a bit but its much morepossible to beef a automatic than it is a standard.

incidently....for straight line drag...automatics are actually faster.
I read that somewhere....I'll have to remember to look it up again.

No one can shift as fast as an auto tranny can...

automatic tranny's shift smoother, when beefed up they shift even quicker and are sometimes 30% more effective than stick, used mostly by professional racers because of the smooth shifts and the fact that you don't have to let off on gas when shifting, which results in more constant boost rather than boost going back to 0 and having to build it up again.. but most of the time this is the case of a fixed up tranny from levelten or so.. around 400-600 per upgrade. stick is just a bit better out of the factory, which is why most people prefer it. also with atx, you can beat someone and eat a hamburger at the same time.<p>(finally someone bashing autos get bashed themselves.. no offense to the stick drivers out there though)

i learned not to knock autos, my grand pa's 68 GTO has a turbo 400, man i never did think a 3 speed could be so fast

Ok, gotta throw my 2 cents in here. Autos can be much easier to deal with on the track and are normally the tranny of choice for high horsepower, RWD cars. The reason is that the shift is so fast. Now something to do have to point out is the thing about smooth shifting. If you mean smooth shifting like the feel between shifts then you would be sadly mistaken.....Racing apps use shift kits and such that shift so instantly from each gear to the next that it pops you back in your seat and will easily chirp tires. If you mean smooth shift such as it is fast and consistant going from gear to gear your correct. Any REAL drag racer with a th400,th350 etc.... tranny will have a hard shift, if its soft then he has fried most of his clutch packs and will be rebuilding very soon.

couldn't you just hit the gas?<p>and his question is if he can put an auto on the BPT, not if one tranny is better than the other. try to find an auto from a 90-94 protege LX or from a 91-96 ford escort GT. get the driveshafts, torque converter, and flywheel too. i don't know how long the tranny would hold up with a BPT. somebody else probably does though.<p>and for the record i'd take a 5 speed any day. <p>[ August 07, 2003: Message edited by: ryanlindenberg ]</p>

Personally, I pulled one off a Dodge Caravan in the local junkyard, for only $10. Cleaned it up, put on new hoses, spliced it in to the return hose,worked great for $40 less than what Autozone wanted for an even smaller one. I cringe when I hear people talk bad about their automatics crapping out at 110,000 miles, then you ask them how many times they changed the fluid and filter, "uh, never...." I keep hearing that,on this forum and an Rx7 forum, but I did some google searching on this and the prices dont seem out of line from many others, at least lots cheaper than some of the $2200-2600 horror stories I have read here. Dont know what kind of quality a lot of these places deliver, but it cant be worse than scAamco or the other popular high-profile shops.

I was just trying to say that some people prefer automatics, and that they dont deserve the bashing they seem to constantly get, and that in SOME cases they can be better. I actually wish I prefered 5 speeds, they are a lot easier to find around here...

I agree slightly. Ive changed my tranny fluid/filter about every 35K miles. I dont have a cooler, but I dont drive it hard either. Its lasted so far about 153K miles. On the other hand, on occasion it does slip, But the "Lucus Oil" Tranny treatment works like a champ.
