3rd Engine Failure pending

Post by maldo »

Well, I found my knocking noise. What I thought was drivetrain related is actually motor related. Good old rod knock! The bearings are gone on one of the rods, don't know which one yet though. I won't be able to fix it for another week or two so hopefully I don't need to drive it too much. Worst case scenario is the rod will punch thru the block...guess it is a good thing I still have the B6T block and crank.

Too bad that project is far from done, I am still waiting on FM to finish testing the prototype stroker kit. I should be able to pick it up in a couple of months once their race season is done. Hopefully I can just replace the bearings and be done with it, I would like this engine to last as I had no determined time frame for project BP to be completed.

Krista (gf) is my driver when the car is out of commission. If I can pay down my bills and put enough into the new engine, I may look at getting a 2nd vehicle next summer. I would like to get an rps13 or ae86 but I can see those becoming project cars fairly quickly. I really should buy a truck.

my friend bought an ae86 (well the corolla hatch actually) a month ago and i know a few people with some 240sx.. those are really popular project cars. i would go with the ae86.. old school wheels are becoming popular again. there are a few aes for sale on club4ag.com

I've looked into it a fair bit. Nice Jubiride kit with fender flares and a set of RS Watanabe rims would look mint. Maybe even swaping to the 20V silver top 4age would be inline. Who knows...rps13 would definitely be getting an sr20det. Too many ideas and too little money.

the 20v would be very nice in the ae and you don't see many of these cars driving around compared to the s13/240. id go with that. but the sr20 would be a smoother swap and the sileighty headlights look pretty sweet too on a coupe.

IF i sell my car, i'm looking into a s13 sr20 swap. damn, stuff is more expensive than i thought. 2600 for all "engine" parts you need for the s13 sr20 or 3600 for all the "engine" parts on the s14 sr20. this doesn't include all the exhaust, i/c, and i/c piping. plus other misc stuff......

maldo, there was a 20v with itrb owned by pj bonifacio in a recent super street issue some time ago. it was very nice. there was another itrb 20v ae86 in the latest import racer magazine as well.
for the price of some high-quality racing seats, you can get an fc and with the money you saved, you can make it a REALLY nice car.
i was looking into getting an 240sx coupe from a friend and doing the sileighty front end. for some reason it just seems sexy to me.. and then putting on a bn sports kit.

I saw PJ's car, very nice and clean, that is what I like about the S13 and AE86, very clean styles.
An FC would be nice, especially with an RE Amemiya widebody kit :D
I like the sileighty conversion quite a bit too, but I do like the pop-up style when the car is done right (a la Yashio Factory) ;)
I don't know what I will do. Keeping the MX-3 since there is no way to get back what I have invested, plus it is a fun car. I found a Trueno for $2400cdn in good condition today...too bad I have no money. Maybe next time. I will keep you updated on the money pits.
[ July 29, 2003: Message edited by: maldo ]
