I would like to know what all possible swaps there is for the mazda mx-3 i have the 1.6l and would like to put a different engine in it, but i am not sure if I should even do the jspec. Has anyone done a swap from a protege? just curious. Please let me know what can be done and how hard is it. thanks!

Hehe if ya do a search ya can find a lot more information than i can pound out in a couple of mintues<p>but to sum it up the swaps that are easy to do for you would be=<p>BP -1.8l Block from protege LX 90-94 125hp <p>B6T - 1.6l Turbo 130hp from 88-89 323 gtx, 90-94 mercury capri xr-2<p>BPT - 1.8l Turbo 185hp J-spec motor..<p>The BP is by far the most simplisct and straight forward swap. I have perfomed it and its very direct and has minimal down time. Its really not even a swap its just like replacing the stock motor. Its best to get the motor, ecu, wireingharness, and tranny, You will have to setup something to have a working speedomerter as of the proteges i got mine from was cable driven.. i am going to get a diffren gauge cluster though that is cable driven to take care of that..

well the sohc mx-3 is a cable driven speedo so, if you used that it might work. <p>with the bp swap donty you need the bp(prolx) ecu? if you did change that how exactly do you change the ecu? i need to know this because im planning on doing the bpt swap this fall. thanx

there are 2 different types of BPT engines. the GTX and the GTR.<p>GTR - 210 HP
GTX - 180 HP<p>both are available from corksport or barely legal transplants.

just remember the cars are similar in many ways and dont overcomplicate things.... we used the protege ecu and the protege wiring harness.. =]

im running a '98 protege 1.8l DOHC motor with my stock 1.6l SOHC wirring harness and ecu..........and the mx is cable driven and all that i did was use the speedo cable gear from the protege and screwed it onto the mx cable just make sure its tight cause i had it come loose and my speedo stopped working for a few days......

they sent that engine 2 me twice and we couldn't get it to go so i finally got the 94 engine and then everything worked fine

ur running a 94 pro lx motor with the mx-3 ecu????? well then in teroy couldnt you use the mx-3 ecu and piggy back it for the bpt swap?????

a goodf sum of people get the mx-3 ecu reprogrammed to wrok with it.
