J-Spec BP, What year engine is it? (PICS)

Post by Marlon »

well today i was looking at my engine at the shop and i looked at the valve cover and it looked like a miata or a 1.6l dohc, but the block has bp stamps all over it and the heads are bp-05-7-2
also the intake mainfold looks different then some then i have seen before (no sticker)
what engine do i have?
is it a bp from a pro just different cause its a j-spec?

Well, that's a FF engine. I don't know if it is out of a Protege..
hint, the intake manifold. FF engine got there hole for air on the right side, and the FR engine got it on the left side, so air come from the front.

nevermind
i understand what you were trying to say now
i did some research and it's a protege engine but not sure what year
it has the same valve cover and intake manifold as the 1995-98 pros
is the only difference in the newer protege bp the intake manifold?
cause i think the block and heads are the same
[ April 07, 2003: Message edited by: Marlon ]

They told you that is J-spec???? I'm not 100% positive but that engine has teh exact same stamping as my friend from NYC who bought a BP to swap into his 2nd gen protege.
According to the junkyard he bought it from, it was from a 96 ES Protege. ALthough it would be nearly impossible to tell if your engine is j-spec or north american spec...I would say it is probably a North American spec from a 2nd gen Protege ES. But consider yourself lucky. Those motors are RARE. Hardly anyone bought the ES's from 95-98, maybe about 8% of all of the Proteges sold in that time period had it. How much did you pay?

Isn't there a serial number somewhere? It will help get your answer.

can't find it
the engine turned out to be a 97
but i might return it cause it';s harder to install then a 1990-1994 bp cause of the wiring differences

The seller?
On the picture, I saw the alternator with a small plate on it.. what does it say?

quote:
Originally posted by Marlon:

I would suggest to check out with BLT. They are great with the 1.8l DOHC engine. They might tell you what to do to keep that engine.
