Where to get a BPT & Protege engine/trans info

Post by Gro Harlem »

Ok, I did a search and all I could find on "where to get a BPT" is "CORKSPORT". Sorry, but corksport is not only expensive, but takes forever to ship, and I'm on the East Coast.
Does anyone know of a cheaper engine importer on the East Coast? Or a REALLY cheap engine importer in CA (I know there is one that sells the BPT for $550 each, but the two people who know of this place, refuse to tell anyone, b/c they make profit off them by selling them for $750).

And as for the Protege Information, I was reading some of your posts, and noticed a few misconceptions some of you have about the 90-94 Protege's. I have a 93 Protege and i'm trying to get a BPT b/c my BPD is burning a lil bit of oil and will need replacement.
First of all, these are the engine codes:
BP-DET (BPT) is found in the overseas AWD GTX's, using its AWD Transmission is a pain in the a--, and its not as strong as the stock 90-94 Protege LX's.
BP-ZET (I think) is the GTR motor with the ball bearing turbo and better internals. It is also a pain to find.
BP-DE (BP) is found in the 90-94 Protege LX's (GT's in canada), and is the naturally aspirated DOHC BP. It is also found in 91-96 Ford Escort GT's and Mercury Tracer LTS's.
B8-ME Is the SOHC 90-94 PRotege DX's engine (SE in canada, but i think they also have DX's). The US market also used this motor in the AWD version of the protege which was sold in 90-91. IT uses the same exact block as the DOHC, but different head, and does not have the VICS system

Transmission info:
F5M-R: Transmission found in the 90-91 Protege DX and AWD. It has taller gearing than the G5M-R
G5M-R: Transmission found in the 90-91 PRotege LX
F25M-R: Transmission found in the 92-94 DX. It has identical gearing as the F5 version in the earlier proteges. I don't know the differences otherwise (bell housing might be a lil different).
G25M-R: Transmission found in the 92-94 Protege LX. Same gearing as the G5mr. Again, i'm not sure if the bell housing is different, but after looking at my 93 LX and 91 LX, they appear to be the same trans, so i'm not sure.
ANd for the record, the G series transmission is the better choice for turbo as it is stronger than the F series. I'm not positive, but i'm pretty sure you can bolt up the G series found on the V6 MX3's and Probes/MX6's to the BPT if you wanted to, but i'm noit sure if the bell housings are different, so i'm not positive. (gear ratios are different on them as well). I have a extensive page for information on the 90-94 Protege with gear ratios and other stuff if any of you care:
http://mazdaprotege.net/modelinfo/1stgen/

thanks for the good info. as far as the bpt, your best bet is to get it from either corksport or your friend(im guessing it's braden). there are places on the east coast but they are more...much more. a bpt would have run me 1200. i got mine from corksport and had no problems with shipping. received it within a week.
Fast imports only come on two wheels.

hrmm...well the main problem i have with corksport is their price of 1000 bux. If they sold it for like 1000 shipped, i'd get it, but they don't :(.
I found a place in NC called Twisted Performance (http://twistedperformance.com) that sells it for $875, but they haven't answered my email yet that i sent 3 days ago :(. I guess i'll try and call them.
I also heard of a bunch of places in canada that sell them for cheap and are willing to ship, but i don't know about the cost of customs or whatnot for that sort of thing :(
thanks for your help tho
