Transmission help

Anyone know what could be wrong if I put my car into drive and it just sits for about 5 seconds reving the engine when I hit the gas and then finally gets a little push to take off. This happens in all gears but takes off quicker in reverse. The car has been sitting for the past week because I don't want to make it any worse than it already is. I have no idea what has happened here. 92 automatic. Thanks.

first things first...have you checked your tranny fluid?

Yes, removed filter, drained fluid and replaced filter + new fluid and still had the same problem.

the only thing i can think of is the torque converter. how many miles do you have on your tranny?

i have the same EXACT problem right now. my friend, an EXPERT on cars, agrees that it's the torque converter as well...instead of buying a new one, i'm swapping my auto tranny in for a manual tranny. you should prolly do the same if you don't mind spending the money.

yup, i'm thinking that the torque converter is the part that's messing mine up also. do you guys have the problems on and off. mine will be slipping forever but then somedays it only slips for a about a min. and then is fine.<P>marsh-how much is the swap costing you? tranny parts labor etc.

i'm not totally sure yet because i want to try all the parts used first....but estimated with the tranny and clutch and other needed components, i'm guessing around 2-3 thousand.
