you do have several options but you need to decide how much of that csh you want to spend and how far you want the car and how long you want it to last. do research on the options people give i have turbo and nos, if your car is tuned corectly the nos wont damage the motor the operator will!!

Your options are:
1 - Do an engine swap (B6T BPT)
2 - Beef up your current engine (very doable)
3 - Buy a turbo and get it installed.
4 - Go and buy a new Mazda MP5 and forget about MX-3's (well, it is an option...)
I think your best bet is to go turbo.
The problem lies in how to TURBO. Do you go TURBO on your current engine or by getting a sort-of-new or not-as-beat-up engine.
I'm not convinced on the purchase/procurement/delivery logistics involved in getting those damn B6T's or BPT's. Besides, it's a real b---- if you don't know about engines and all of the little odds and ends required to make this thing work. Can you afford the mechanic and the time involved to get this done?
I trust my engine. All of the parts work. It has been well maintained. I'm going to slap a turbo on it. You would do OK going this route too.
Be an informed racer and read all you can about turbos. Read everything you can find about what is involved so you can make an intelligent desicion and understand what it takes to have a turbo-powered engine.
I recently posted a Miata turbo install in the 4cyl tech section. It's a Miata, but the story is about the same for MX-3's or any little import for that matter.
Turbos are reliable, safe, upgradeable and FUN AS HELL!!!!!
RF

I currently own a 92 rs. Ive been watching the mx seen for a while but lack the funds to do anyhting major..I hope by next summer I can do a swap..I was thinking though, maybe I should get stcok 4cyl from mazda, the engine currently in my car or a low mileage one, and turbo it..I could do my current engine but with almost 100k on it im a littel scared ast to what might happen..does this osund like a good idea? I mean I know it can only take 9psi ( i think ) but waht kinda HP would I be lookin at? if it isnt enough what can be done to beef up the little 4cyl? any info would be great..the b6t and bpt sound cool, but wiht wiring issues, axles, trannys etc...just seems a bit to much for me...

renef----
here's the deal:
i have the $$$ to do what i want to my mx...well at least $3000 put away for this new engine...but what i need to know is if i buy the BPT...then what else do i have to change to make the car run faster (tranny?..etc)...yea i have a friend who can do this for me..so that's no big deal...i guess the issue is ..i need to know if there could be any major problems if i make this swap?? i figured about a grand for the engine maybe what..300 for shipping..700 for mechanic? what else do i need though?unfortunately, i don't know anything about engines,,,and i am totally relying on this website for help (you all are great)..and trusting in my mechanic to do a good job??
thanx,
heather :)

if you decide to get the motor from corksport the you can figure that you will already be out 1031 dollars it 799 plus shipping and handling
2 you need to pay the mechanic that will vary depending upon your area.
3I don't knowhow hot it can bet in pit. pa but here in texas you must have an intercooler, and the piping blow off valve , i went to an external wastegate on mine from the research it seems to be alot safer than an internal wastegate.
4 you need to figure out the electronics turbo timer, boost controller, the apex unit for fuel. and good piece to add is msd 6btm. these are just safety things to consider you do not have to get them all at once i would watch ebay to see how much you could get you r hands on one. I went stand alone computer because i am one that will not take the chances on this investment when i added up every thing new it was close to a 1000 dollars for the electronics so i just got a sand alone for close to the same price. this will mostly be your prefercnes and how far you want to take your car and safely get it there.

my question is this now why are you getting the bpt and not the b6t? which one will bolt up to your tranny is the b6t I thought, but could be I wrong. Unless you are getting a protege tranny.
