Engine Swap

How difficult is it exactly to perform a 2.5L engine swap into the 4cyl MX-3. I have a line on a Milennia engine (man will that be fast in the MX-3 or what?!?!) and I'm just wondering if anyone has tried to covert the 4 cyl to the 6 cyl 2.5L or other.

Well, I would have essentially anything I would need from the 2.3L Supercharged from the Millenia. And a mazda mechanic friend of mine. I still want to do this very badly, as I know I can get the engine/parts cheap, which may make the effort worthwhile. Any thoughts?

super street had a segment in the tech Q&A about this in the june issue. they even said it's not really that benificial unless this is something that you really want to do. that it would be easier to buy a v6 mx-3 and go from there. money isn't the only issue. this is something that will take quite a long time to complete. but if your patient and determined it will turn out good. i just don't see putting that much time into a swap just for kicks. i'd keep the mazda mechanic friend but swap in a bp series 4cyl motor.

I know it would be kinda hard, but can i get the same amount of power out of a 4 cyl engine that i can from that supercharged one? Also don't forget the NOS kit I'll be adding. Oh hell yeah.

I believe you can get just as much power out of a good 4cyl as with any v6, I've herd that the BPT 4cyl from a 323-GTR (I have also herd it called the BPD) is VERY upgradeable easily reaching 300hp and well beyond, that engine has a lot of goodies (hallow exhaust valve stems, less restrictive intake manifolds, heat resistant cylinder heads, etc...) I think if you get that engine, you can take all the money you saved from retrofitting a V6, and dump it into reinforcing your engine innards, run some insane pressure, squeeze in some nitros when you need them, and you will have a car that will be the envy of all your friends and will eat mustangs for breakfast.
I like this site a lot:
BPD info
