Modern cars comparable to MX3's

I was flipping through the new Carguide and discovered something. Cars have become very expensive. But yes markets have gone up and down and the economy changes. Compared to back in the day when we bought our 92 MX3 GS it came fully loaded with lots of extras, warranty, and all the rest for $20,000 can.
A real bang for buck car if you ask me.
So what can you get now for that money? What cars come close? Here in my opinion are a list of NEW cars which come close and my opinion on each:
Ford Focus ZX3-great handling, bang for buck but a little under powered(lets wait for the SVT!)
Hyundai Tiburon GT-V6 nice car and it has a 6 speed!
Toyota Celica-expensive,base and GT have only 10hp dif in engine power but a huge price gap and base has rear drum brakes.
Acura RSX-costs more than the Celica GT but will outperform it with 200hp. a little out of price range.
Nissan Sentra SE-R specV- a 4 door but you get the Altima 2.5L engine, 6 speed, 17in rims, strut tower bars, sway bars, sport seats, and tuned exhast. All @ $22k Can, a real bargain!.
Mercury Cougar-The right formula:2.5V6, disc brakes, mazda handling. But its just pure ugly inside and out so id never buy it, but thats my opinion.
I think that Mazda should get into this sport compact craze and re introduce the Mx3 or build something like it. It should have 2 doors, at least 170hp (I4 or V6, but push for the six) good looks, 4 corner discs and great handling. Mazda played a big part in the popularity of sport compacts but then pulled out the MX3 and lost.
PLEASE MAZDA!! BUILD US A NEW MX3!!
(and not a cheap attempt like the cougar)
