More time! another few hours:
That was probably the hardest part to clean so far.
Also, check out the internals:
The oil cooler is a huge oil restriction...

pistons galore:
this set I can use.... I guess I can pretty much any time go get it all balanced. I will pick up a flywheel yet, since the only one I own is in my DD currently.

Dont like the oil cooler? Swap in a newer KLDE/KLZE oil filter neck, has no cooler on it.

Or you can just remove it.
I'm not doing a race engine, so it'll be fine... if I change my mind later, I'll remove it and install one that uses air instead.
Modified pistons squirters:
Knock sensor is out, juts need to clean that half of the block, the rest of the coolant piping, and I'm done until the reassemble.

Just waiting on a few parts before I send out the rotating assembly to get balanced...
- need to remove pistons from rods
- acquire K8 flywheel and machine it
- get clutch

looking good !
What did you do to modify the pistons squirters?

I squished them with pliers and a hammer.
The later KL's actually had them removed completely, so I figured I'd compromise, just reduce flow.

Polished rods:
new cylinder sexiness:
mini sides:
crankshaft: polished all of the cast surfaces, the rest were pretty good from factory.
stock port:
my 3rd pass of the modified ports:

Yeah... I didn't make sure the rack was empty... so putting the impact on the pinion retaining nut yielded... well... that.

Why wouldn't you just leave the squirters as is? Any benefit to removing them? I'm wondering if pinching the end would actually just cause them to shoot out at a higher pressure.
Nice shot with rack fluid, lol

Higher pressure behind the squirters is exactly what I want. They are fed directly from the top half of the main bearings. The higher the pressure behind them, the higher the pressure everywhere else in the system.
They were removed entirely in the later KL's in order to raise oil pressure when running, as lots of KL's have suffered rod bearing failure due to oiling issues, I just compromised. Some KL's sees only ~10PSI at idle

First class work Ryan. Good move on the squirters I'd say, I look forward to seeing this all come together.
