so which trannies have a 4.11 and which have a 4.39?

just to confirm as I am a bit confused the 4.11 will have a lower rpm at higher speeds than the 4.39?

Which ratio gets you about a 50 rpm per mile ratio in 5th? Basically if your doing 4000 rpm your going 80 mph, 3000 = 60 mph.

I am thinking of just changing the 5th gear as that is not a difficult swap and it would be to save gas mileage. I tend to drive between 80 and 90 mph. It would also be a little quieter and easier on the engine. I have a bpt so power is not a concern.

thanks

Basically the lower the number, the taller your gears, which means you rev lower, as well, also increasing your top speed

4.38:1 - Probe & Mx-3
4.11:1 - Mx-6 & 626

None of which you can use since you have BPT

Why couldn't a BPT use the gears mentioned above?

I have a 1.8 dohc protege tranny on my car now which is a G series. The same G series can be used on the cars mentioned above from what I have read.

Internals, maybe, I dont know, but externally to bolt the gearbox to the motor, not going to happen.

There's some info you can find here. It's in reference on a MSP LSD and the 5th gear swap, but has some reference to what you ask

With the right suspension the K8 tranny would be faster.
But look at it this way
you can only transfer just so much power to the track.
