Ok what am I looking for or listen for I should say. Right now my mechanic still has it.

Just hunt it down, you should be able to hear/see where its coming from. These are usually really good transmissions (the 5 speeds) and only usually fail catastrophically when the car is turbo'd or some such. Under normal use the syncro's wear out and gears get notchy before anything bad happens.
Your mechanic should be able to find it no problem, if he can't... IDK, I just don't trust mechanics.
