sorry mitmaks but that is the price i was quoted for the lights (housing / lights / wiring) it may go down but i'm guessing not by much cause they will be custom making each light for each person

Even if it was for a 50 year old car, production costs are production costs.
You can't really charge a dirt cheap price just because your car is old. Plus, The MX-3 holds much more sentimental value than most cars 10 years newer!*

I don't think jp *Tatsu* would appreciate that. A very upstanding and prominant longtime member here that's contributed greatly to the overall effectiveness of this BB. Perhaps turning to a positive perspective may gain better results. Tatsu, living in the lower mainland (and I know you know where that is) could actually be a strong catalyst towards a promising outcome to this current endeavour. He has spent an inordinant amount of his personal time and funding (over $1,000.00 I believe) to try and source viable lighting for our car's. Diss'ing him or his previous efforts serve no positive purpose.
How about contacting him personally yourself since geographically you aren't far from him, and bringing his attention to this current project. With the multitude of R&D that he has done, I'm sure that it would go a substantial way from design to finished product if he were to submit his R&D to that company. Or at the very least was a participant in this project. In my mind, you would be a perfect candidate to follow this suggestion through since you're very attimate about acquiring a set of those lights. Here's your opportunity to give a little to this BB and community.
Contact tatsu and we'll see what happens from there.

i apologize. i meant no disrespect to tatsu. i practice some negative humor sometimes. but i guess it isn't funny.. all i meant by "project tatsu" is that it won't be updated no longer, seeing as that has happened on several projector projects that are announced here. the announcer suddenly vanishes without a word.. "project barros" cud've been another alias. but i see both are just slander. i apologize.. as tatsu is close to my location, that would be great, but contacting him as illapino won't serve much purpose. what would i say neway. i know nothing of the technicalities of creating automotive headlight units - I am just the consumer. i can be patient with as many projects as i can (and i hope i'm not being taken seriously when i seem mad on an online forum that they don't get finished, haha). just remember: whoever finishes first gets my four hundred !

lets please keep things civil guys, my lighting work is in no way an attempt to do anything bad to tatsu, but I knew I couldn't afford his lights and sought other options for myself and decided to leave it open to others if they wanted. I will let him know about it if he doesn't already. Here is a small update from andy I just got an email from him:
----------------------------------------------------
Hi Tim,

I sure will. Chances are, we're going to use 2
different sized lights. Are there restrictions there
regarding the type of beam to be used? Should the beam
be spread or can they be like spots?

Also, noticed that the assembly includes the bracket.
Do we include the bracket in fiberglass or just the
main housing. In other words, you'll use your old
brackets.

Let me know. Oh, and the other guys need not send
their lights since we're already going to make the
housing.

I guess, we'll send yours first and you can study it
and if we need to make any adjustments we can apply it
to the others.

Andy
--------------------------------------------------------------

I'd prefer to use our stock brackets so if anyone has a problem with that speak up and let me know why having them make brackets would be better.
I'm ok with two different size lights since we have odd shaped headlights I figured that would happen, again if anyone has an issue please speak up
As to spot or wide pattern I'd preffer wide pattern not sure on legality though so if anyone has advice please share

Just a note: If they are recessed that far back you are going to end up with a poor light pattern. It will be like a spot light instead of a fan shaped beam. Not alot of road coverage so you'll have to aim them tword the middle and then you'll not get any off road light. Notice his question above, the answer is probably going to determine how far back they are set (maybe what light they use too- H4 bulbs are for fogs and are more rounded in pattern, higher than H4 is a headlamp and is fan shaped). You want higher than a H4 for driving so that you spread the light over more area and can see more. You could use the second light as a fog instead of a high beam that you could have on at the same time as the low beam. You could then direct the fogs at the middle of the road making it more bright. You would need to check local law. In the States there is a max heigth for the fogs.
Good luck on your project. Looks like you might acutally get this done. 8)

Ps, I urge any who buy aftermarket lights to aim them properly. I'm sure somewhere in this GB there will be directions on how to aim the lights. It is tempting to aim the light a bit higher so that you can see further ahead, but think about blinding someone and having them run into your lane. No one wants that :( In the US the drivers side light is pointed a tad more tword the center of the road since you don't want your beam in the other lane too much and the passanger is pointed a tad tword the road edge so that you can see pedestrians.

He used H3's, for ours I'm hoping for something a little better than those but you can always upgrade later... as to depth yeah I am also hoping to have ours not quite so deep in... I like the fog light idea i'll have to bring that up to him... mine might actually only have 1 light cause i might use the inner light hole as an air intake... but we'll see... and I am trying to make sure they will be adjustable cause i know everyoen hates when peoples lights are right in your eyes

Not sure if this is viable but if the lights are H3 and ahve the spot instead of fan then maybe we could do this mod to improve them
