I'm 23, 24 in March
I bought my white 92 GS MTX in 1999 swapped motors in september of 00 after reading the article "Rapid Transit" in the march '00 issue of Sport Compact Car, featuring the Corksport MX-3. When all my buddies were into hondas and made fun of me for tinkering on my MX, think it's hard getting parts now? then it was really a pain. blew my first 2.5 in 01, swapped with a low mile 2.5 later in 01. car was totaled jan of 02 (I still have her though one of the benefits of owning 5 acres lol) REMEMBER TO SAVE YOUR RECIEPTS!!!
Bought my red 93 GS on ebay with the insurance money from the 92, remember the reciepts I was talking about? well I fought them with the reciepts for all the labor and custom work (I only had liability, and it was the other drivers fault) in the end I got enough to pay for the car on ebay and drove a rental from St. Louis to Dallas Fortworth area TX and drove my baby home, been SPENDING on her ever since.
A buddy calls me up and asks if I still like those little Mazdas, my reply ...duh well next thing I know I have a blue 93 GS MTX for a grocery go getter. best part is it was only 50 dollars and "please get it out of my driveway" I think the sale of that one may finance further projects for my baby but thats all up in the air
And your right about tallying up the costs of "playing" with an mx-3 I know I have spent ungodly amounts of money over the last six years but I think that if I add it all up (in the process, with a speadsheet) that dollar for dollar I will have had more satisfaction with my MX-3 collection than ever having to finance a new ride. My parents have a 05 accord that has been in the shop 4 times for minor / major repairs, I remind them of this everytime they suggest or question "why don't you get a new car?" I think that I understand more about MY car than most of the mechanics at the local mazda dealership, they all wanted to see the 2.5 swapped into my ride, then actually compared it to a stock 1.8 off the used lot to see if I was fibbing LOL!!! This car has been a great ride and everyone of my friends agrees it matches my personality. so in the end all the loot was worth it

I've mad my Mx-3 since i was 21, i just turned 24 on Feb 8, and my car will be paid off in June this year as well (w00t)
She's an early 1992 with the squared Mazda symbol. I bought her with 109'000km from an old guy, original owner![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)
What i've spent on her so far, neglecting regular maintenance, wich is very minimal (i wanna add this up as well, most prices are approx, should include tax, shipping if applicable not calculated):
Custom Plates: $250
Engine Swap, incl preventative maintenance parts, some upgrades and labor: $5500
2.5" Stainless Exaust: $700
Headers (not installed yet): $250
17" Rims and Tires (Used): $960
Pioneer Deck + Install and IP-Bus RCA input box $1100
2 Optima Red Top Batteries + Battery relocation kit $700
15" Touchscreen (bought 1, sold it at a major loss and just bought a new one that has a smaller bezel and better screen) $1000
CarPC (including all the upgrades done over the 2+ years) ~$2000
Bodykit (not installed or painted yet) $1000
Broken underbody neons (my fault) now needs new inverter: $300
El Cheapo 180w Amp and wiring kit: $250
2x used 8" subs that need to be replaced: $80
800w A/C Inverter $100
250w DC/DC Power Supply for the CarPC: $300
Hatch shade that got stolen: $200
Sterring wheel and hub (not installed yet) $150
Front and Rear Corksport strut tower bars: $200
Holly bajebus! $15040 at a conservative guestimate ...and well worth it
Planned for end of this month/early next month:
Gas tank: $180 incl tax*
New Brake and Fuel lines : ~$200, but wasn't quoted for stainless steel.*
*Needed and will happen
Install headers and "hi-flo" cat, and if my buddy gets it for me like he's suppose to, a short shifter.
Brembro Rotors and Ceramic Pads (I may change my mind on this setup, haven't done much research yet on exactly what i want, and if my dental bill gets coverd by work) $600
I would love to pull off a GroundControl & MazdaSpeed Spring/Strut setup or an AST Sport-Line coil-over kit before the Ottawa Mazda Meet in end-May, if that happens, than the bodykit is going to get installed and the whole car painted. I have most of the cash saved up for the paint job, i'll just put what little bit thats missing (i had it saved up for with my new job requiring an appt - first and last month rent - plus the 626 breaking down leaving me with a $200 towing bill, i had to eat into that a bit
) into the line of credit
