Barry, if I were you and had the chance, I would rather stick to the MAF and not swap it with our well known VAf. I think that the aussies get the J-spec cars, so I ´d consideer purchasing the Ecu from there. Don´t you know the job that some people had to do to just makes a Maf works? Think about it!!
Have you checked the Kf injectors? What color are they, red or blue? (just for curiosity)

What are your reasons for suggesting the MAF over the VAF. I think either will work fine if you get the right type. I'm just more concerned about the ECU. I don't know if I'll loose power if I use my existing ECU.
[ March 12, 2003: Message edited by: WyldSide ]

MAF is a bit less restrictive as far as Ive heard (look how the VAF is designed).

I started taking the motor apart (were trying to get my neighbors MX-6 LS finished before we start on my swap.)
I hope u guys dont mind all the pics...

By the looks of that KFZE you'll have to move your brake fluid cylinder and maybe even your battery to a different spot.

Gonna either use my K8 IM, or let my neighbor use my KF IM and I use his KL, or just buy a ZE IM.

There are curved neck IM out there for the KF, as i've said, my Lantis engine came with one, at a guess i'd say the 323F that you guys got prob has one too? Unless you're getting a real good deal, i don't see why you'd want to, with that said, my 1.8 was ZE spec to start with, so maybe you would notice the power hike?

If anyone wants some parts, ecu's etc i can prob get them for you, my ecu cost @60US$, it's just that shipping'll be $$$$, this goes for KL parts too, i can prob do engines too, but they'll have no warranty, and i'd be paying retail etc, etc...

Cool! I'll keep that in mind. I might need an ECU eventually, so I'll let you know when the time comes.

Mine came with a straight neck. Do you have pics of yours? What did your cams say? Im just curious cause there are 2 different types of these motors.
Can you check what shippng would be? Also. Can you get manuals for these?

James- you WILL need an ecu, or at least a rechipped one, my (old) spark plugs lasted a week before I ran into fouling troubles, too much gas
Barry- no I don't have any photos, but the IM looks the same as my K8 IM, the neck has a wider curve to it and the throttle cable linkages? are different. I believe RHD cars don't run into the same trouble with straight neck manifolds anyhow!?
I'll check out the cams and shipping prices for you though

Can you get ECU's and curved neck IM?
I was gonan use a bigger IM from an MX-6 to help get more air, which may overcome some of that richness.
I work for Fedex, so shipping will be cheaper for me.

i just went out to the garage, the cams on my K8-ZE are the same as the ones in your pic, except they say K801 instead of KF01, they have 431, and 451 on the closest one, do you have K8 stamped on the heads of your KF Barry?
