Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
not necessarily a new spindle. Just the hub and bearing. Sometimes they say a really worn out set can damage a spindle... but my hub/bearing was so far gone, there is no way yours would need replacing if mine didn't.
We can have a bromance together if that would make you feel better

Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
I'm sad to see another member going through hell with their car. I've been in the same position for a long time now... Went from driving a loaner '98 Camry to a loaner '95 Civic hatchback... I've driven my '92 GS maybe 10 times since March, and my '93 GS once since 2011.
Money's been tight, but I've held out hope and I finally snagged a well paying job... My automotive budget is now $1,200 a month, and I'll be making up for lost time. Just keep your head clear, and focus on other things until you can fix the old girl. Don't give up yet!!

well that's good to hear, i'm thinking about grabbing the whole spindle off the GS since that thing's not driving anyways but we'll see what i'm doing.SuperK wrote:not necessarily a new spindle. Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
It was no trouble, really! We all need a little encouragement from time to time, and I've certainly had plenty from multiple people!
I went through a 6 month stretch of unemployment, barely scraped together enough money to pay recurring bills(odd jobs, even going so far as to use my loaner car as a taxi service from time to time
), but I finally snagged the perfect job(to hold me over until basic training).
My last job was amazing, I drove a delivery truck and was paid hourly, the packages were heavy so I got in a moderate full body workout on top of being paid to drive around listening to the radio.
Unfortunately, my hours were cut from 30 a week to a sad 4... The truck was even a 5 speed, I was in 7th heaven! I couldn't keep going at that rate.
I definitely want to make up for lost time, and being debt free I am actually presented with the opportunity for the first time ever... I'll be doing some major updates in my '92 worklog in the coming months. I'm pretty excited, I've been saving some surprises for everybody!

Make sure you pull off a spindle from a 94 or higher GS. The 93 and lower models had a smaller ball joint, which is no bueno

Yeah thanks for mentioning that even though i already started taking it off today then it occurred to me as i took off the caliper, so i just put everything back on it and called it a day lolSuperK wrote:Make sure you pull off a spindle from a 94 or higher GS. Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
so with the support of superk and mrmazda92 i've gotten some motivation to even touch this thing. I didn't take many pictures because they weren't really things worth taking pictures of.
It only took me about 2 years but i finally got the speedo working!!!
I tried for 2 hours about 6 months after the swap and failed and then i tried again after swapping the clutch with Tavis but the line was stretched out too much and the speedo would jump all over the place from 60km/h to 220km/h and back down to another random number and i could also hear the cable clicking away behind the dash so i just disconnected it and left it.
well today i redid it and ripped out some metal piece behind the cluster and ran the cable through a different path and the cable was still quite tight to get on but i guess that was enough to make it work, yay!
I managed to get off all my lock nuts with this technique http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJUUyjJqk5A and boy was it a b---- to get the nuts out of the 22mm socket i used. Because i didn't have a vice i used a 24mm socket against the smooth garage concrete floor but the regular hammer wasn't cutting it so i got my step dad to help slam the punch with a 5lbs sludge hammer while i held it, and it still took a lot of effort but at least the lock nuts are off so if i get a flat i can actually change it out =D
Something else most people won't know except local people, i've been running without a lot of my interior panels and i finally got around to installing them today! feels it's strange, i have to get used to not having random cubby holes everywhere and seeing all the wiring lol
some pictures!
I replaced my broken timing cover even though i bought the cover a year ago XD

i wasn't actually aware the back side of the cover was broken as well.
Again, thanks for the support guys it means a lot. A lot of my local friends change cars yearly so they were just like, "if you want to sell then just put it on kijiji!" and stuff like that.

Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS

not sure why this took me so long to think of but even though the ball joint shank is smaller on the 92 than it is on the 94, why not just take the whole thing!
so that's what i did, i took the balljoint/spindle from the 92 and replaced it with my 94 balljoint/spindle, it's a temporary fix till i get the new wheel bearing from rockauto.
ALSO! the passenger balljoint wasn't bad at all! i'm actually very disappoint that i forgot about it but more disappointed about the alignment place not noticing it but the reason the balljoint was loose, WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T TIGHTEN THE THROUGH BOLT!
So today while i was changing out tires i thought i'd take ryan's suggestions and check to see if the bolt was tight or not to see if that ruined the ball joint because when i was loosening the lug nuts the whole wheel moved a lot which worried me that the balljoint was worse than i thought so when i looked, i just saw the bolt hanging out there with the nut just finger tightened on, it blew my mind that i forgot and that the alignment place didn't see it! I tightened the sucker up and put the wheel back on and now everything's solid! YAY!!!!!!
Still gotta do the driver side wheel bearing but that just got a whole lot easier because i won't be rushed to do it since it's not on the car.
I'm so super happy now, that's for all the support guys, you rock
OH!
5 spoke mode =)

I told you about that alignment place, they thought a cone filter meant a turbo....
Glad to see the car's going good now though.

yeah but i get a 10% discount there and the other place i wanted to go to can't get my car on they're lift, i'll just go back and b---- about it in a nice way and see if i can get the money credited to the alignment.RobMinhas wrote:I told you about that alignment place, they thought a cone filter meant a turbo....

Either way, my car drives fantastic right now so i'm not gonna let something like this bother me, i'm really enjoying driving my car right now. Can't wait for the FMIC =D

thats cool you got every thing on the up and up. I have wanted to give up on a 20 year old car as well but i thought i could buy a new one and make payments and higher insurance each month or i can save that money and replace stuff when it breaks or pay for goodies for the car.

Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
After 2 years and a countless amount of tires, I finally got an alignment lol

One of the main reasons i got it now was because i changed the camber up front and for some reason that threw off the toe considerably and made the tires squeal in a straight line lol.
It's amazing how different the car feels now but that's cause my alignment was VERY off, here are the numbers. (feel free to laugh at my stupidity)

anyone know what the hell SAI angle is?

Re: Evo_Spec's 1994 BP-T RS
Steering axis inclination.
"Steering Axis Inclination (SAI) is the measurement in degrees of the steering pivot line when viewed from the front of the vehicle. On a SHORT-LONG ARM (SLA) SUSPENSION the line runs through the upper and lower ball joints.
On a MacPherson strut suspension; the line runs through the lower ball joint and upper strut mount or bearing plate. This angle (SAI), when added to the camber to forms the included angle and causes the vehicle to lift slightly when the wheel is turned from a straight position. The vehicles weight pushes down and causes the steering wheel to return to the center when you let go of it after making a turn.
Like caster, it provides directional stability and also reduces steering effort by reducing the scrub radius.
If the Steering Axis Inclination (SAI) is different from side to side, it will cause a pull at very slow speeds. SAI is a nonadjustable angle, it is used with camber and the included angle to diagnose bent spindles, struts and mislocated crossmembers.
The most likely cause for Steering Axis Inclination (SAI) being out of specification is bent parts, which has to be replaced to correct the condition. On older vehicles and trucks with king pins instead of ball joints, Steering Axis Inclination (SAI) is referred to as (KPI) King Pin Inclination."
