Re: kulluminati777's All show and no go....

Post by kulluminati777 »

So i was coming back from cologne last night and my engine just crapped out on me out of no where...the check engine light had came a couple of times this week but i didnt have an appt to get that looked at till friday, Im almost 100% the disty is gone (the crank angle sensor inside  ) because i have a external coil and HEI set up which is not that old so i dont know how it could be that...is there any way to check the coil and hei to make they are good? I might just get a new disty or go for coil packs because this external coil set up has never been good to me (wouldnt even work on the MX-6 for reasons unknown)

In the back of my mind im hoping the engine is shot so i could get a DE/ZE (haven't decided yet) earlier that what was on the schedule...

but now my car is trapped at a rest stop somewhere in germany and i wont be able to mess with it till i get back from a Op's mission i have this week. It is a little discouraging in a way though. I mean this is the 4th time the car has crapped out on the auto bahn (some where preventable) but every time my wife was by herself. This the first time i was in the car when it broke down. At times i think i should part out the MX-3 and get something thats more reliable and has a better aftermarket support...

I think driving on the Autobahn with a tired underpowered car is a recipe for disaster anyway.

since my accident a few years ago i dont go past 120km..now thats a normal highway speed, plus the K8 thats in there now is of European origin so im sure it was tuned for the autobahn as most cars over here are...

Even if it was tuned the K8 is still a pretty weak engine. But hopefully it's nothing catastrophic and you can get stateside with the K8 and then get yourself a DE/ZE.

The k8 is pretty bulletproof, once you keep the fluids right, and plenty powerful to drive anywhere. I guarantee there are plenty sub 130 break cars motoring up and down the Autobahn daily. I think the issue here has more to do with this specific k8 than k8's in general (hence the flashing engine light?!).

x2

The only breakdowns I ever had were distributor related, except for one time my clutch hose exploded. Megasquirt + coilpacks, never again.

havent looked at the car yet because it will be sitting on the autobahn (in a rest stop at least ) until next tuesday but some good news is i have some MS-01 caps!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. There not exactly how i wanted them but they will do. The center rings and nuts are in perfect condition BUT the original "rays" center piece is gone :( so what the guy did was get a custom blank replacement made and put a custom cut newer rays rim center piece on it....im not a fan but i guess it will do. unless i can get a certain member to trade *cough *cough mooneggs

Good stuff! Just get an MS or RAYS sticker to replace the Volk emblem and you'll be good to go 8)

That is true jay :freak:

I have good news and bad news...the bad news is acording to the mechanic i took the car to the engine is done, they claim it will be 2000 EURO to fix....the good news is im dropping my MX-6 engine into the MX-3 then parting out the MX-6   so i will no longer be in the "all show no go" catagory.

A little bit of a good/bad update (depending on how you take it)

yo ethand It is a DE but i have reserved judgment on swapping the engine before i get to the states , i think only the timing belt snapped and the mech just assumed the valves were bent and the engine was toast....and i hope it is just the timing belt because i wanted to rebuild a DE and supercharge it once i touchdown in the good ole U.S. of A.......I think if i was to get a ZE with my luck it would crap out and i would end up with a DE anyway. The DE is so readily available in the states as the ZE is not and the DE is born for forced induction, i want to keep the Official (despite the nay Sayers) Mazdaspeed MX-3 on the road as long as possible.......

Also i have sent back my MS-01 center caps that i had just gotten for 2 reasons;

1. With the engine crapping out who knows how much it will cost to get the car back on the road.
2. They weren't EXACTLY the way i want my caps (all original) and im sure i will get what i want in a little while....ill just have to be patient :confused2: :confused2:

Did you send them back already? I would have considered getting them off you if they definitely fit the 01Rs.
