Damn nice work. May I ask why you have a computer in your car though?

Carputer. why would you not? Carputers are awesome, I have seriously contemplated it, though I decided to go with just a android based in dash deck.

Haha I'm totally down. I was just curious as to what he was doing with it, eg a media center?

The CarPC in my Mx-3 was done back in 2002 when I first got the car, it was an idea I had for a while when I drove my parents 626. Nowadays you don't really need to run one anymore to get the same functionality (the Xterra has one, but the mobo and LCD are dead, and I want to put one in the 8, but cash isn't really there for that project). I started it before the CarPC market existed. Used it as a GPS when GPS was only an OEM option and you couldn't buy a TomTom or Garmin. My full Mp3 collection was on there. Some mp4 movies and even a TV tuner card (My PS2 passed through it as well) with an antenna (no I didn't watch anything while driving). Had a good video card in there to play games. I've even sat in there and done homework so I had the MS Office suite installed. Anything you're mind can come up with, it's handy and truely was useful, especially sitting in the car and waiting for people.
Ideally, I want one in the X and one in the 8 and have them talk to each other, but not that I can drive both at the same time, lol!

I love my asteroid classic, and when the RS is functional I will be going to the double din. They also have a deck just for the Iphone.

Ohhh, nice, but not what I want for a setup.
While th X originally had a double-din 6-disc, I swapped it out for a Pionner 980BT and the space under neath is where I mounted my CB radio. Although they made a nice new color single-din CD player, it's MP3 only, no CD.
The 8 I want to put in a nice Pioneer Double-Din to replace the factory 6-disk, and get the OEM Nav display (the only thing my 8 is missing is the Nav) and use that for CarPC display.
CarPC's are technically outdated in terms of function/cost/size, but I perfer it that way for flexibility. I do like Android for the apps however, for that part I'm jealous.

As a huge computer guy(I'm a software engineer), I find having a huge touch screen or apps to be pretty pointless. I just got the most simple deck that support a aux cable and subs. I like using knobs, much easier to control stuff in the car. I do love the cool factor though, especially like the people who have mounted nexus 7s in their dashes.

That is what I wanted to do originally ^^ but they have issues with them shutting off and or draining the battery. The Asteroid classic is not a touch screen but does everything I wanted it to minus a backup camera input. I thought I would hate not having a CD player, but meh that was so 10 years ago, I don't even know where any of my CD are. I have like 30 Gb's of music and call it a day. the rest I stream off of my phone via blue tooth.
I think in the car it is better to have large icons just for the sake of driving, but to each their own.

Yeah, and people were also having issues with them overheating i believe since cars can get reallly hot in the sun. I just looked at the pictures of that asteriod classic, that thing looks really classy. Much better than a lot of the light up decks. CDs are definitely pointless! Most of my music is on my phone.
