higher profile tires
Re: higher profile tires
I hate ABS, almost caused an accident for me on ice. With an experienced touch we can brake quicker and better. That pulsing actually PMO. Loose your ABS

Re: higher profile tires
I damaged an ABS sensor a while back and have been driving without the ABS for over a year now. Keep in mind that if you disable the ABS system by removing parts, but leave the ABS pump in the system it does have a slight "softening" affect on the brake pedal. Or at least I definitely percieve it that way. I have been meaning to replumb my brakes without the ABS pump and motor, but have not gotten to it yet.
Also just as counterpoint...the MX-3 ABS system is a very early example of one and it's not very sophisticated. A more modern car with an up to date ABS system is a really effective safety tool. Many many studies have shown that ABS reduces stopping distance in low traction situations for even the most skilled and experienced drivers.
Having said that, I would rather die than own a car with active traction control. I want to be the owner of the accelerator.

Re: higher profile tires
I've always been of the opinoin that ABS dosen't stop the car faster, if anything you may take longer to stop. What it ensures is your ability to control/steer the car while braking.
People say well, aircraft have it so,,,yes aircraft have it because the pilot can't really sense how much pressure he's applying to the brakes so on bigger aircraft the pilot could easily blow the tires by over braking. Aircraft anti-skid systems ensure skidding conditions are avoided and that relates to longer tire life.
I haven't driven a new car to able to see if the newer systems have been improved upon but the few vehicles I've owned with ABS I hated.

Exactly what I thought too.Daninski wrote:I've always been of the opinoin that ABS dosen't stop the car faster, if anything you may take longer to stop. What it ensures is your ability to control/steer the car while braking.
I agree, the Rx8 has it, no choice with a GT, but fortunately you can disable it (2 stages), but resets once the car has been turned off. I had a rental GM truck while in Wainwright this year, and even when you hit the button to disable, it STILL kicks in. Really ruines ones fun in the snow...wytbishop wrote: Having said that, I would rather die than own a car with active traction control. I want to be the owner of the accelerator.
