my original door on my 92 would stay locked when i closed it. however my new door requires me to lift the handle or it unlocks everything. perhaps it was added after 92 or 93? at any rate i hate having to hold the handle when i close the door. ill probably end up swapping back to the old mechanism when i get around to it.

p.s. i dont see how lifting the handle is supposed to stop you from locking your keys in the car. once youve driven the car for 2 weeks it becomes second nature and is hardly a reminder...

trust me, it doesnt. I locked my keys in the car this weekend just been, first time I've ever done it to any car... It was in my driveway, running with aircon, headlights and music on, but my mate had parked in a bad spot, so I was guiding him to an appropriate park and must have unconciously lcoked the door and held the handle up on it... I'd used my spare key the previous day to pick the car up from the mechanic, so that was in the centre console, too...
SO i had to call the RAC (insurance and road side assistance company) to ask them to come recover my keys... but my rego with them had just run out and I hadnt renewed my cover yet. So that was a $150 and 1.5 hour mistake to make, thankyou very much :(
looks like I might have to wait a while to get those parts I was thinking of getting, now :x

Oh, and it cant have been something that was added after '93, as my '92 one has that function on both doors...

ouch man that sucks. theres break-in kits you can buy at canadian tire for like $50. they might not be very useful depending on where you lock your keys in the car but if your at home it might be a good idea.

and $150!?!? the tow company i used to work for charged $60 for unlocks, and we were overpriced as it was.

edit. oh your an aussie... probably wont have a canadian tire anywhere close

There are many ways to open our cars without keys, but we probably shouldn't go into detail about them.

Sucks that you paid $150 for something thats free for most of us with a little blackmarket skill.

haha i just looked it up... my nearest canadian tyre store is in Westshore/Colwood... or 21 826 km away from my house... hahahaha I dont think thats so easy to get to... :?
hahahaha... yeah, things are more expensive in Australia, despite the similar exchange rates... but normally, you only have to pay $50 a year to register with this company for roadside assistance (if you get flat tyre/battery, lock keys in the car, run out of fuel, break down, etc.) and you get unlimited help for the year, but bacause I'd not yet gotten round to renewing my membership, I got charged the $100 call-out fee, plus I had to re-register, which was the other $50... :(
I guess I might not be able to get that JDM front lip and leather upholstery I was lookin at now...

Take off the door panel and look at the slotted actuator rod that the handle uses. This will have seized, causing the problem you describe...

Not much else can happen in there. Not like it has a mind of its own.
