Miguelitto, I would LOVE to get a worklog on that project!! Did your friend ever write it in english? Or has anyone translated? I've considered doing this myself, but I figure it was a low priority with my other car problems. This does however look viable, as well as fairly simple. Thanks a bunch!

Hey Im not sure how feasible it is but when I was loading someone at work I saw something that looks like it could work. On a ford escort zx2 the rear decklid had a shock that lifted it up that had a basic bolt on spot on the top and bottom that looked like it would give enough clearance. Not sure but I hope to grab one soon to mock it up

I actually found a pair of struts I had laying around today... They were from a tractor(The struts that lift the engine cover from the side), It's a heavy piece of metal so they're powerful struts. They are probably a 1/2 pound a piece, and are a little over a foot long. I checked to see if they fit between the hood and the fenders, they fit with about 3/16s of an inch to spare on each side. Meaning simply, there is room to mount them... It would add around a pound of weight, which cancels out when you don't need the rod anymore.

Also, they are strong enough that it should not be a problem in the cold... However, availability/price might be hard to deal with. I got mine a while back from a friend who thought they might make a suitable replacement for my hatch struts... I kept them around in case I ever needed them, and I might end up using them.
