Well I'm sure to keep a work log. As for right now I'm waiting for it not to be -40 out. I basically got my car from a auction for $1000. It was in really bad shape. I was still working at Mazda at the time and got new gears put in the tranny, whole new cooling system, ripped out the interior and have sprayed in what could best be described as truck bed liner. Its sound proofed and insulated very nicely. Cleaned the heck out of the car top to bottom and inside and out, engine included. I really can't wait for this too start. Now just hope by wallet holds up.

there's a guy on probetalk with a mx3 and has a klg4 motor in it and he's on 14lbs on stock bottom end and has just ran a 11.9 in the 1/4 mile. he says he likes it more then the KLDE cause it makes alittle more power then his old DE.probably because it has lower miles maybe

So Jesse, seeing as how you've been down this path yourself... Any recommendations or anything to watch out for?

I like my G4, revs better and makes a little more power because of the slight compression bump. A G4 is much better than DE. The only thing you'll have to work around is the pressurized expansion tank. If you keep your stock burp tank you can just cap the extra nipples on the G4 (water neck and tstat housing) and keep driving as normal. I recommend that route instead of converting to a pressurized expansion tank becaase those tanks are known for failing.

1998-2002 KL's (''KLG4'') HAVE:

-KLG4 cams (cam height: 43.549mm)
-Solid lifters (Adjustable)
-KL-1A1 & KL-101 heads
-''G4'' Type IM
-Coil packs
-RH Cam pulley sensor combined with a different crank pulley
-No Oil cooler
-KLC7 Crank (Instead of KLO1 (DE & CURVED NECK)) or KL31 (Long neck ZE))
(All crank bearings are interchangeable, crank's weight is the difference)
-9.5:1 C.R. Pistons

Here's the recipe !

Thanks for the info. I'm starting to like this engine more and more. Why haven't more people done this swap?

Just for our record, all the K and B series mazda cranks for mx's are forged.

They're actually not very easy to find in many places.
BY the way, I only have a Ported/ polished DE with ZE exhaust cams & pistons, and the KLG4 IM (and some Voodoo).
Once I'm settled, I'll keep an eye out for the G4, and go for 250WHP with ITBs.
