I'm planning to do this myself. I dont see any good alternative to welding the sheet metal into place. And even if your a real good welder your still going to need a skim coat of body filler to fill the scratches after grinding down your welds.

Re: Hood extension / Angry Eye Mod
I know solo...its seriously one of the coolest exterior mods Ive seen on an mx3.
That plus mazdaspeed bumper = sooo nasty. I have the new projectors too, and if you don't look at the bad interior design of the housings, it looks quite nice!

Re: Hood extension / Angry Eye Mod
I was out looking at my car today (quel surprise) and I don't know how easy this really is... The headlight sticks up above the level of the hood. You couldn't continue the same angle. Also, the hood moves quite a bit, and who wants to crack bondo/headlight when you close it maybe too hard (or maybe by accident)
Is it just a single sheet of metal, no reinforcement?

Re: Hood extension / Angry Eye Mod
so is it better to use fiberglass or weld in a metal plate?
Re: Hood extension / Angry Eye Mod
i've never heard of using fibreglass for it. but i would stay with metal. its easier to use

Re: Hood extension / Angry Eye Mod
cambridge auto wreckers has a white mx3 with a hood that already has these eyelids. at least they did last time i was there, could probably get it dirt cheep wouldnt be hard to do though really..just welding, grinding, sanding a little body filler maybe and some paint. ive wanted to do this for a long time, just been waiting until i have a spare hood to do it to.
