The red and blue wires in the 3 pin plug still need to be connected to the coil...which is inside the disty. If you're not going to install an external coil, you need to splice into the red and blue wires and extend them to the HEI module, but still have them connected to the 3 pin plug and plug it into the disty because that's where the coil is. The orange wire only needs to be connected to the HEI module.

cool, I saved that image.

Btw, repaired my plugs at work today. Plugged them all back in and took off the HEI, fired up the car and it started.

Now I've pretty much done exactly what I've been told (not using ext coil for your info) and with the HEI it just does not fire when I remove that orange wire and put it onto the HEI.

Are some GM ignition modules just not right? I have all the exact same points and labeling on it as in the guides, I can't figure it out.

I have heard of guys getting a ba one right out of the box. REturn it and try another one.
