I didn't. I used Escort parts which fit like they were made for the Escort struts....oh wait...they were.

The MX3 stock upper spring perch has a 19mm hole for the strut piston to pass through. The Escort Tokico struts have a 21 or 22mm piston. Those who have used the stock MX3 perches have opened the hole with a rotory tool like a Dremel or a die grinder.
