They aren't but they are. The V6 Mx-3, Mx-6, Probe and 626 all use G-series trannys, but they don't bolt up to 4cyl motors. It's the gears inside determines what series they are, it's the casing of the tranny the determines if it bolts to a 4cyl or a v6

Thats really stupid. The gearing is the same, the housing is different. I suppose that would show up in the actual code for the tranny, I suppose... but thanks, I always wondered that :)

wait wait wait. I thought the 626 had an unusually low 5th? If the mx-3 v6, mx6 v6 and 626 all use G series, wouldn't that mean they all have the low 5th? Or was I mislead and they all have the same 5th? hm.

All the 6 cyl G-series trannies have the same 1-4 gear ratios, but 5th is different in the 626 and MX-6. Probe and MX-3 have the same 5th. Not sure what the 4cyl gear ratios are. The housing is different from the 4cyl to 6 cyl because the engine block that it bolts to is different.

Yes, I would imagine the bolt patterns are very different on a 4 cyl and a v6... and I was just reading on here and I think its only on the manual 626's that the 5th is different. Does the MX-6 have the same 5th as the 626?

I think I should make a thread with all the gear ratios from each tranny and diff and everything that we could possibly use.... unless its already been done... put 'er in the FAQ :)

It's the same series cause they're compatible and swappable. It doesn't mean that they're all exactly the same.

There is a list like that, it's around. I've seen it quoted many times and last I saw it was actually farily recently

I'm pretty sure the 626 and the MX-6 both have the low 5th gear ratio.

Search the transmission forum for Gro Harlems posts. He's the one that posted the list. I also quoted it in a thread in there which included a link to the iMazda LSD upgrade thread.

OK, I finally found what I hope you're looking for, check out this link.

This is where I got most of my info, and covers both the F-series and G-series transmission gear ratios.

Okay, thats good to know... do you know the codes for the trannies? I know they'be both G series, but which exactly? G5M-R? G25M-R? Both the 626 and Mx6 have open differentials?
